The Queue: Nintendo Watch
Really, it shouldn’t be surprising that I’m calling this Nintendo Watch. What will be surprising is if Nintendo actually announces an Animal Crossing title for the Switch (a real one, not a mini-game one).
If that happens, I probably won’t be around to comment because I’ll have died from happiness.
Great! So, QftQ: About that new Nintendo announcement?!
I will never not be…
- Psyched as heck for Nintendo announcements (Fire Emblem! Ridley in Smash Bros.! Something FFVII-related actually appears at E3!)
- Disappointed that it wasn’t an Animal Crossing announcement.
One day, we’ll have Animal Crossing on the Switch. Until then, I’ll be ready to kick all y’all’s butts in Smash come December.
Alright, well, to give tomorrow’s Queue writer something to work on:
Will there be a grappling hook thing in BfA like in Stormheim? Or do we have some other fun exploration mechanics?
At least in terms of Horde, nothing is jumping to mind right now. There is a choice you have to make in Zuldazar to choose between two different Loas (Loae? Loa?), and one of the choices lets you “fly” (auto-jump) from level to level at certain locations around the city, but I think that’s it.
technoskald made a joke about it, but I am serious.
Is there any possibility of a sister site “Bethesda Watch”? I would love it! I can’t stop thinking about it now. Is there a site like that already out there?
We’ve actually tried the “sister site” thing here with The Tavern, and it… well, it’s not here anymore, is it? I wasn’t an Editor back then, so I can’t say for certain, but I’m like 99% sure it’s because the site wasn’t financially viable when compared to Blizzard Watch itself.
I realize Bethesda Watch and The Tavern are two very different concepts, but I imagine the result would still be the same. So… is it possible? Maybe if the site ever grows to such a degree that we could afford that sort of branching-off. For now, unfortunately not :(
Oh, and if we ever do branch out? Good luck getting anyone to do anything but BioWare Watch ;P
2BE: Sylvanas at sea level versus Obi-wan atop MT Hyjal.
….Damn you, SPencer. This is not a fair question. Obi-Wan has the high ground! It’s over for Sylvanas! But Sylvanas is Sylvanas, so I’m still going to let her win. Because I can do that.

Q4tMitch: what’s the deal with the lack of void themed specs? We got Spriests and nothing else. No “murderous cultist” rogues. No “void knight” paladins.
Do warriors really need 3 different flavours of “hit thing with a sword”? Turn fury into the duel wielding tentacle arms spec.
Shaman don’t need an elementalist spec; those are just mages who couldn’t make up their minds about burning/freezing things. Give us a twilight’s hammer spec!
Y’know, that’s actually a solid question. Truthfully, I think the answer comes down to gameplay and changing lore over time. Shadow magic and The Void were not always considered the same — not really. Then Blizzard defined Shadow’s class fantasy in Legion with heavily Void-focused elements. Essentially, they decided that Shadow = Void and the Shadow Priests would be the spec that focused on the Void.
Warlocks have Shadow spells, and Rogues use, uh… I think they kind of use Shadow magic/energy. But both are very much the “old” definition of Shadow magic.
So it’s possible we’ll see Void magic spill into other specs in the future, but I think Blizz is pretty happy with Void magic being Shadow Priests’ thing. After all, if you had more Void-themed specs — rather than other themes with a Void ability or two sprinkled in — you’d have a lot of classes dealing with whispers and madness and Knaifus.
Q4tQ: When were the Death Knights we play created?
I always assumed all the DKs we play were created during the 3rd War, but last week’s Patreon bio reminded me we have BE and Dreanei DKs too. So those would have been created at the start of the War of the Lich King?? Or are they mostly an anachronism because Blizz wanted all races to be DKs.
I’m trying to figure out when Arthas stopped making DKs (he’s the only one that could make them right? Aside from the Deathlord in Legion) for the RP background of mine.
So yeah, the timeline for DKs is a bit confusing, especially now that Wrath of the Lich King is several expansions old. However, the DK starting experience takes place more or less as a prologue to Wrath of the Lich King proper. There are Death Knights that exist in-game that are from well before Wrath — Mograine, for example — but player-created Death Knights came into being just before Wrath, chronologically.
As for more Death Knights? I can’t remember where exactly it was said (maybe during one of the Q&As?), but there was a very heavily foreshadowed answer that said newer races couldn’t be DKs unless Bolvar decided to raise more Death Knights. COUGH COUGH. I’m paraphrasing slightly there, but yeah… I would be more surprised to not see Bolvar raise more DKs than if he did raise more.
Q4tQ: Yrel, eh? How much fun is it going to be to 2h-Mace Murky?
I like Yrel’s Heroes of the Storm mechanic for its uniqueness, but it does feel like she’s a bit undertuned. I’m not sure I see the Murky comparison (feel free to explain that one to me), but I expect she’ll be one of the few Heroes that actually receives post-launch buffs rather than nerfs.
2BE: “Jenny” Awesome and Twinkles vs Literally Any Enemy
With the exception of Sylvanas or Obi-Wan with the high ground, “Jenny” Awesome and Twinkles will trounce anyone.
