What kind of April Fool’s joke do you like?

Up front, I hate April Fool’s Day. I hate it because the internet becomes so maddening that I just have to pretend everything I see is a lie, because half the time people’s idea of a good April Fool’s joke is a false statement crafted to seem accurate enough to fool people. But there are April Fool’s jokes I like — the ones so obviously false that I never have to worry about being deceived or disappointed by them.

Blizzard has done a lot of these over the years — so many that they actually have an archive of them. Goblin Tinkers as neutral heroes in Warcraft III, wisps as the next race for the Alliance, Warcraft: Heroes of Azeroth a prequel RTS to World of Warcraft that sounded suspiciously like it was just Warcraft III, or Blizzard Kidzz — they’ve had a lot of them over the years, and I always liked them because they never felt like they were trying to trick me or get my hopes up. I mean, some of them eventually happened, in a way — we did eventually get playable Pandaren, although in World of Warcraft not in Warcraft 3 — but in general, the bard class preview or the Blizzard Outcasts page felt like jokes told in warm, affectionate regard for the players and fans as well as a touch of self mockery for Blizzard itself.

They’re still at it, too.

So now, dear readers, we turn at last to you — what kind of April Fool’s jokes have you enjoyed over the years? Is it the Molten Core console port that was designed for an Atari 2600? It totally is, isn’t it? If not, why not, that one was brilliant guys. Come, share with us your favorite April Fool’s gag and explain why those kids today just don’t know what a good joke is… sorry, that’s just me being old, carry on.
