Where to find weapon trainers in WoW Classic

One of the biggest surprises many of you will have going back to WoW Classic will likely be weapon skill. You can be a high level character with tons of experience under your shiny belt and loads of time completing quests — but it doesn’t mean you’ll know how to use a sword. To do that, you have to spend time with your weapon and earn the right to wield it.

Weapon skill determines your chance to hit your targets successfully. It shows up as a bar just like any profession or reputation bar. You gain points and it fills up until you’ve mastered it. Every time you level up, you’ll need to gain another five points of weapon skill all the way until level 60 where you’ll need 300 to cap each one out.

All of the game’s nine classes start with different weapons already learned and each one can only learn specific types. Rogues will never be able to learn how to use staves, but Warriors can use anything in the game except wands. If you don’t have the weapon skill to use a certain type of weapon you can’t use it, even if you know your class can wield that weapon. To fix that, you can go and see if you’re able to learn a new weapon skill at the weapon trainer characters spread throughout Azeroth. It costs 10 silver to buy a new one, but it starts at zero. You’ll need to use that weapon type against level-appropriate enemies to increase the skill.

The only caveats to weapon skills are that Shamans learn two-handed axes and maces via their Enhancement talent and Mages, Priests, and Warlocks don’t need to train themselves to use wands.

Here are the weapon trainer locations sorted by faction and capital city.

Alliance

Ironforge – Daggers, crossbows, thrown weapons, one-handed axes, two-handed axes, one-handed maces, two-handed maces, fist weapons, and guns.

Darnassus – Daggers, staves, bows, fist weapons, and thrown weapons.

Stormwind – Daggers, crossbows, one-handed swords, two-handed swords, staves, and polearms (requires level 20 and one gold).

Horde

Orgrimmar – Daggers, bows, one-handed axes, two-handed axes, staves, fist weapons, thrown weapons, bows, one-handed axes, two-handed axes, staves, and thrown weapons.

Undercity – Daggers, one-handed swords, two-handed swords, crossbows, and polearms (requires level 20 and one gold).

Thunderbluff – One-handed maces, two-handed maces, staves, and guns.

It can take a lot of time to travel across the world to train a new weapon skill, but if you get a brand new, powerful tool, you’ll need to take the time to add it to your arsenal. It’s a quirk of the old game that makes you way more invested in the weapons you use, making upgrades incredibly meaningful.
