What are you doing in your games to cope?

I’m seeing a lot of people naming new characters — like Death Knight or Warlock characters, as an example — things based around COVID-19, I assume to cope with the current situation. I’m not doing that — instead, I’m leveling a Barbarian in Diablo 3, because nothing helps me forget the constant sense of panic and anxiety that is my current fleshly existence quite like smashing everything I possibly can.

It’s just my way. Plus, I can socialize with people in game and never once have to worry about getting sick, or potentially getting them sick, something I worry about a lot. What if I’ve already got it? I don’t want to spread this, but running Ny’alotha, I can tell bad jokes and otherwise be myself around people and never once risk making anyone ill.

But like I said before, I’m seeing all sorts of other approaches to getting past this trying time using our favorite video game distractions — friends who decided to blow some in game gold to keep their WoW sub going a few months longer, friends who started an opposite faction guild so they could finally see the storyline, and one friend who decided to go back to Warlords of Draenor and collect all the music possible. I don’t pretend to understand what makes people feel better when stuff is getting rough, but neither do I judge — as far as I’m concerned, if you can gain a modicum of solace out of naming your Afflock “Covid” then more power to you.

So what about you? Are you finally buckling down in WoW Classic to get to 60 so you can do some raiding? Getting ready for Echo in Overwatch? Trying a race or class or faction you normally never play? Finally tanking for the first time because it’s not like a group can go worse than things in the real world seem to? Tell us what you’ve done in game to get yourself through this current crisis.
