Spit emote no longer works on other players on the Burning Crusade Classic PTR, which is good, because spitting on people is gross
On the current Burning Crusade Classic PTR, using the /spit emote when targeting a player no longer works. This, in my opinion, is a good first step, but since you can still use a macro to essentially spit on other players — at least ones in the same faction as you — it doesn’t go far enough, in my opinion.
Look, I’m pretty big on basic respect and civility. I get that makes me seem old and decrepit like a collapsing ruin, but nonetheless, I feel like there are some things we don’t do in relatively polite society and this game should at least aspire to concepts like mutual cooperation and treating other players as part of a shared community. Spitting on each other just feels like going nuclear over something that is meant to be a fun diversion, a shared pastime. Nothing that happens in a video game, not even a massively multiplayer one, justifies acting like a jerk. Spitting on people is a jerk move.
Now, I understand that we can all get frustrated, that people can push our buttons, and that sometimes we /spit on people for doing things like deliberately killing a mob we were trying to tame, dragging a whole host of mobs on top of us and Feigning Death while we’re just trying to kill stuff in peace, and so on. But maybe… just maybe it’s better not to be able to spit on each other? For one thing, like I said above, we’re going for civility here. Secondly, it’s gross. The idea of someone’s bodily fluid being horked up onto someone else is not doing wonders for my gameplay — indeed, it’s making me feel the need to go wash myself and I’m not even seeing it happen.
Seriously, we’re trying to play a game here. We’re not in second grade — and if you are in second grade, stop spitting on people. It’s gross. Blizzard, if you must keep the /spit emote, fine, but make sure people can’t target other players with it, and close any macro loopholes please. It’s gross, it’s uncivilized, and it’s just not fostering a good community vibe at a time when we could really use more good community vibes.
