The Queue: Late? Early? Let’s find out!

The Queue is not at its regular time today. Why? Well, that answers depends on when I finish this and if not-regular-time means early or late. Let’s see how long it takes me to get through a Queue.

In 3…2…1… QUEUE!

THOMAS STRANGE BRINGS UP A QUESTION THAT’S NOW MULTIPLE DAYS OLD:

Thinking about yesterday a recent question in the Queue, which boss have we already seen that you could build an expansion around (but they won’t) — I do like the idea of Murmur, with a twist. It’s not a sound elemental. It’s a devourer. The orcs who summoned it didn’t know what it was, and were like, “Noise god, I guess?” It took the form of a ghostly voidwalker because that’s what our minds could comprehend.

Anyway, I think any of the devourer bosses could be good options for, “They could do an expansion around this, but won’t”.

Murmur is honestly a really solid choice. I always kind of wished we’d gotten more there, too.

Times like this I wish I had a complete list of bosses on hand at all times, but uhh.. hm, is it cheating to say either Azjol-Nerub bosses or Utgarde bosses? Technically both of those were originally going to be bigger than they ended up on live — a full zone for the former, a raid for the latter, iirc — so maybe not full expansions, but definitely a patch!

I think Dimensius the All-Devouring is the other one that comes to mind. Its description makes it sound way more intimidating — it literally destroyed the Ethereals’ entire homeworld — than the game actually presents it as. We killed it in a quest out in Netherstorm.

Dimensius could’ve been an actual, fully fledged Void Lord and a big antagonist for — if not a full expansion — at least a patch or a zone. Maybe TBC just had a lot of big-name baddies we killed too easily!

MUSEDMOOSE HELPED ME PARTIALLY ANSWER THIS ONE A FEW WEEKS AGO:

Question for the Mitch Queue: how would you feel about a new Old God showing up with an expansion?

I started wondering about this because while we could have one of the current Old Gods start causing problems again, they’re already well-established and it might feel like a rehash. But we’ve never had an expansion that focused on the Old Gods (BfA does not count and I will die on this hill), so I wondered what it would be like if we went to, say, the Dragon Isles only to find that they’re dealing with an Old God who slammed into Azeroth within the past century or so. It would be a chance to do something new with the Old Gods and the void without causing problems with the lore. Thoughts?

So, if we’re going to shift the focus to Old Gods again, I’d either go the route of a new Old God with a twist in the story or I’d take an existing Old God and expand on what we know. Every time more Old God stuff happens, I get worried we’re hitting diminishing returns on their effectiveness as villains. I think we need a new angle and not just a new Old God.

Honestly? My ideal is making a Warcraft 4 RTS and setting it in the past, during the height (or rise of) the Black Empire. Ultimately, it wouldn’t be changing what happens in WoW — but it would be Old God content in a new way, revealing new things, and showing new places. I’ll take that over something that has to connect to the current WoW story.

ROWSDOWA CELEBRATES THE DAY AND GIVES US A SURPRISE BLAST FROM THE PAST:

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Still wish WoW had a St. Patrick’s day holiday.

Every time St. Patrick’s Day gets brought up with respect to WoW, I can’t help but think of an old Community Blog Topic — yes, we’re going that far back, for those of you who even remember those — where the prompt was to design a new WoW holiday. My choice? St. Patrick’s Day!

I’ll be honest, with a few exceptions, I hate reading old things I’ve written. But looking over what I wrote all those years ago? Could be worse.

And because I’m not just going to bring it up without sharing, please enjoy the post in its entirety. I’m gonna move onto the next question because looking at things I wrote almost a decade ago makes me cringe. (Though lol @ the post where I say I’d get rid of Mind Spike.)

LUOTIANX WANTS TO KNOW WHAT RESONATES:

QftQ: Do you have a character–WoW, D&D, or other– that you play that just resonates with you and you don’t know why?

I play in two D&D games, and while I love my cleric and think of a cleric as more my personality type, I LOVE my half-orc Barbarian in the QeD&D. If I think of buying merch or saying what my character is, she’s who I think of. It’s so weird to me.

Hmm… I’m not actually sure I have anything like this. There are video game characters I like and relate to, of course, but in terms of ones I make myself? They’re all a unique brand of Chaotic, and I like them all for different reasons.

I’d say my Strahd character (who was decidedly evil) is one I really liked the potential of but never really got to live up to. I’d love to take that character through a “NG+” Strahd campaign or something. The one he premiered in is full of new players AND very large (8 players, at least 3 of them new) so it wasn’t really the best environment to really get into character.

So even if I don’t necessarily resonate with him in the traditional sense, it’s one I still enjoyed quite a bit and would love to come back to in order to really play into the character more.

ENO, I’M SORRY TO LET YOU DOWN:

QftQ: If each WoW race drove a car, what kind of cars would they drive?
It’s okay to ignore this question if you don’t know anything about cars, I’m certainly no expert

I really wanted to answer this one, but I also know nothing about cars. That said, Gnomes would probably drive either a Volkswagen Beetle or, like, a giant Hummer. I guess Forsaken could also drive a hearse around, eh?

This is definitely one I leave to the commenters, though — have at it!

CORY THINKS I KNOW THE FUTURE:

Q4tQ: What do you think of the new MUSE video that came out today? Does it crack your top 10 favorite MUSE songs?

Well, the song premieres at noon ET, I’m writing this before noon, and don’t have the ability to see the future so… I have no idea! I’m always excited by new MUSE-ic, but I’m also fully aware MUSE sometimes releases a total banger and follows it up with a some I’m just lukewarm on. And then, most of the time, I actually come around to liking that second song.

So who knows! I’m excited all the same, and I’m fairly confident that if I don’t love the song immediately, I will in a few days.

That’s The Queue for today! We’ll return to our regularly scheduled time tomorrow, probably. As I just mentioned, though, I don’t have the ability to see into the future. Have a great day!
