The Queue: Evokers have a dragonflight-or-fight response
(☞゚ヮ゚)☞
Queue time, y’all.
Q4tQ: What are your thoughts on the new “Empower” spell mechanics? Would you like to see some of your class spells or abilities switch over to this mechanic? Along with the ability to hold down your key longer to empower your spell, would you also like it if you got the option to just press the key for a reduced power cast of your spell?
Using Shadow as an example, you could tap the key to cast Mind Blast while on the move at 25% of its spell damage, hold for 1.5 seconds for it to deal its normal 100%, or hold the key for 3 seconds to deal increased damage or refresh all of your DoTs.
I think it’s a really cool way to change up spell design, and my mind went to the same place yours did in terms of utilizing it across existing spells and classes. But I also don’t want to see it over-used or over-complicated — I fear that may lead to unintentional min/maxing that just sort of takes away the fun. For the scenario you described, that might be a fun talent choice or temporary buff to apply to Mind Blast, but not necessarily something I’d want it part of all the time.
I think in the end, if it’s going to apply to existing spells and abilities, I want it to be an optional thing or temporary buff or something. If it’s for new spells, I want it to make sense rather than feel forced — charge up a massive AOE, wind up for a big punch, take in a deep breath to release fire, etc.
Apparently Dragonriding will be the only type of flight in the Dragon Isles
Not quite sure how I feel about that, til we see the full list of upgrades, but if they’re considering bringing Dragonriding to older zones, would it replace flying mounts entirely?
I don’t think it will ever replace flying mounts entirely; what’s more likely is that they’ll take aspects (heh) of Dragonriding and implement them into normal flying. One thing they’ve talked about is how they wanted to incorporate momentum into how you flying in the Dragon Isles. I remember way back in Cataclysm, they changed dismount momentum so instead of just dropping straight down after dismissing a mount, you’d fly forward and utilize whatever momentum you had on your flying mount — effectively, they changed it from plummet-dropping off your mount to using it as a way to leap forward and get more speed/distance.
That’s the sort of thing I can see them taking from Dragonriding and applying across the board. I’m sure there are going to be upgrades that just plain won’t make sense in most of the world.
Q4tQ: How do you like your coffee? And your steak?
I prefer dark roast with a small amount of milk in it. I’m not usually a flavored-coffee person, and cream upsets my stomach a lot more than milk. I’ve also recently — and much to my chagrin — been trying decaf blends to be nicer to my heart.
I do not eat steak, nor any kind of meat. I do love me some Beyond Meat, though!
Q4tQ: how much money is Blizz leaving on the table by not releasing Azeroth Truck Simulator?
All of the money, my friend. Remember last week when I said Blizzard should let other devs take the Warcraft IP and spin up new adventures in their own genre? This is exactly the kind of money-making idea Blizzard is just leaving behind by not doing that.
Going off the fact the shore Stony Tony stands on before going to sleep for 10,000 years is a gradual slope into the water and not a sheer cliff, it seems that The Dragon Isles were an island pre Sundering. Which then brings up the question, are there more lands masses that were separate from the pangea continent that made up Azeroth before the Sundering?
The simplest and most boring answer is, “Absolutely! …If the devs ever decide to do that.”
The explanation for the Dragon Isles being gone all this time was that it was magically hidden, to the point where even the Aspects wouldn’t be able to find it. If that’s all the explanation Blizz wants to give, then it completely opens the door for similar magic heckery.
Now, I don’t think we’ll return to that well repeatedly, but it’s certainly one that’s there if needed. I, personally, would be totally fine if Blizz just said “Yeah, so, there was an entire other side to Azeroth. Don’t think about it too much, just enjoy the new continents.”
Q4tQ: Considering there are cinematics for when we win against TheBigBad™, should we have cinematics showing what happens if/when we wipe?
Y’know, I’d actually love if we had cinematics for that sort of thing, even if they only played the first time you died. That would be a fun way to hide the endings in datamining, too (I think).
Q4tQ: duck world boss in Dragonflight, yea or nay?
That would be too powerful. We wouldn’t stand a chance.
That’s The Queue for today, y’all! I hope you have an excellent Thursday and an even better weekend ahead. Don’t forget to leave lots of queuestions!
