How to do Conquests for the Diablo 3 Season’s Journey

The grand tradition of the Diablo 3 Season’s Journey is storied, Watchers. You log in, knock out those first four chapters for your Haedrig’s Gift like a monster, and then the challenges show up. Set dungeons, legendary gem levels, and Conquests, oh my!

Conquests can definitely be painful if you haven’t tackled them in a while (or ever). But don’t let these daunting goals fool you — they’re called achievements for a reason. And we’re here to help you get those achievements completed! Here’s what you should know going into Conquests in a Diablo 3 season.

What are Conquests?

Conquests are uniquely Seasonal achievements; leaderboards exist specifically for Conquests and reset every season. The last three chapters (Destroyer, Conqueror, and Guardian) require completing a Conquest each to progress in the season’s journey. The Conquests aren’t assigned; the goals involve completing 1 / 2 / 3 (depending on the chapter) Conquest-type achievements out of the pool of five available in the season.

While Conquests are more difficult than the average achievement, they also scale in difficulty. Some are extremely hard to achieve with solo play, and some only require level 70 and the right gear. Each Conquest achievement has a normal mode version and a hardcore mode version, so the names below are listed as Normal Name / Hardcore Name:

  • Avarice / Avarita — Complete a 50,000,000 gold streak while outside of The Vault and The Inner Sanctum.
  • Boss Mode / Worlds Apart — Kill listed bosses in 20 minutes from starting the game.
  • Curses! / Stars Align — Kill 350 or more monsters in a Cursed Chest event at level 70 on Torment 10 difficulty or higher.
  • Season 30: Divinity / Lionhearted — Complete a Greater Rift 75 Solo.
  • Masters of the Universe / Masters of Sets — Master eight Set Dungeons.
  • Season 30: On A Good Day / I Can’t Stop — Level three Legendary Gems to level 65.
  • Speed Demon / Need for Speed — Complete a Nephalem Rift at max level on Torment X or higher within 2 minutes.
  • Sprinter / Speed Racer — Complete Acts I through V at max level in under one hour.
  • The Thrill / Super Human — Reach Greater Rift Level 45 Solo without any Set items equipped.
  • Years of War / Dynasty — Reach Greater Rift Level 55 Solo with the full bonuses of six different Class sets.

Conquests in Diablo 3 Season 30

The available Conquests rotate each season. Here are the Conquests for Diablo 3 Season 30:

  • Divinity / Lionhearted
  • On A Good Day / I Can’t Stop
  • Speed Demon / Need for Speed
  • Curses! / Stars Align
  • Boss Mode / Worlds Apart

What Conquests should you complete for the Season’s Journey?

Now, what should you tackle first? That’s a pretty good question. Let’s walk through these one at a time; please note that I’m going through these from a solo perspective, impacting my ordering.

On A Good Day / I Can’t Stop

The absolute easiest Conquest is On A Good Day / I Can’t Stop. You’re going to be leveling your gems up throughout the Season’s Journey. The progression is pretty clear:

  • (Slayer) Gems In, Gems Out — One gem to rank 25
  • (Champion) Up and At Gem — Three gems to rank 35
  • (Destroyer) Insane in the Gembrane — Three gems to rank 45
  • (Conqueror) Gem of my Life — Three gems to rank 55
  • On A Good Day / I Can’t Stop — Level three Legendary Gems to level 65.
  • (Guardian) Gem Fatale — Three gems to rank 70

Oh, look! That final jump requires we rank our gems up 15 and not another 10, so completing this Conquest fits right in between the two. If you’re working on the full rewards for the Season’s Journey, you’ll achieve this naturally as you scale your gems up in Greater Rifts.

The Thrill / Super Human

The next easiest requires a bit of effort in gearing and paragon levels, which is the only thing keeping it from the top spot. The Thrill / Super Human became significantly simpler for almost every class with the introduction of the Legacy of Dreams legendary gem, as most have a solid LoD build that can be thrown together with low effort. Similar to the Legacy of Nightmares ring set, the Legacy of Dreams gem increases damage dealt and reduces damage taken but requires no set bonuses equipped on the player. While the LOD gem normally allows for individual set items, having them equipped will keep you from completing this conquest.

Every legendary item equipped contributes to the increase, but try to get the gem to rank 25 so you unlock the double bonus for Ancient items. The Rank 25 LOD is not essential; in Season 21, I completed Speed Demon with the majority of the gear necessary for the Demon Hunter Legacy of Dreams build (but not all) and a Rank 15 gem. Sadly, not every class has a solid build that can take advantage of Legacy of Dreams, making it a bit frustrating for some of the player base.

Avarice / Avarita

Tied with The Thrill / Super Human for second place is Avarice / Avarita. It only requires a few specific gear pieces to be a real “easy mode” achievement, but more gem leveling:

  • Goldwrap belt — grants armor equal to the amount of gold picked up.
  • Boon of the Hoarder legendary gem, (leveled as close to rank 50 as you can manage in running Greater Rifts)– causes an explosion of gold when you kill an enemy.
  • Avarice Band ring — increases pickup radius.

If you want some extra help, you can equip (or load in Kanai’s Cube) a Leoric’s Crown and socket a Flawless Royal Emerald; the world won’t end if you don’t have a top-tier emerald. Now, make sure you have a (cosmetic) pet selected. Open up the highest Nephalem rift you can easily manage — Torment 13 or higher is ideal. With the increased gold find percentage on progressively higher Torment levels and the right rift map, this honestly becomes quite fun. Running around a Nephalem Rift while effectively immortal is a great feeling.

You can also try tackling Fields of Misery in Act 1 or the Cow Level if you have a Bovine Bardiche handy to cube. While there’s no time limiter on this one, be sure to keep an eye on your gold tally in the bottom-right corner of the game window. If it disappears for too long, you lose your gold streak.

Speed Demon / Need for Speed

The next in my difficulty ranking from a solo perspective is Speed Demon / Need for Speed. Now, a few things can make this much more manageable. You want to start similarly to the Avarice / Avarita setup: the rank 25 bonus for Boon of the Hoarder adds a 30% increase to movement speed on gold pickup, plus the combo of gear and gems will make surviving the two minutes successfully a good deal easier.

Another essential piece of equipment for success is a pair of Nemesis Bracers wrists, which cause an enemy champion to spawn at Shrines and Pylons when clicked (adding 3-4 ‘free’ bosses to your rift map for more orb drops). Good news — you can slap this on your follower, and they will emanate the legendary power! This Conquest also benefits from you gaining paragon levels, as you can max out your movement speed by Paragon 200. Finally, your life (and this conquest) goes much faster if you have unlocked the movement speed and extra progress orb nodes on the Altar of Rites.

The most critical thing to understand with this Conquest is how the timer works. The clock starts when you open your T10 Nephalem rift, and it’s ticking until you turn in to Orek. Time to hustle!

Divinity / Lionhearted

Next in difficulty is Divinity / Lionhearted. If you’re working on completing the full Season’s Journey (or just looking to push the leaderboards), this is a natural step! But completing a GR75 solo might sound insurmountable to more casual players.

But trust me, you can do this, and here’s why. A GR75 is the equivalent of Torment 16. Yes, that’s the highest Torment difficulty. However, the combination of your Haedrig’s gift set, some paragon points under your belt, and leveling your legendary gems for the Season’s Journey makes this a natural next step. Having some difficulty knocking it out without dying excessively and burning up your timer? Consider swapping in a Unity ring on yourself and your follower and leveling up a defensive legendary gem, such as Esoteric Alteration, Molten Wildebeest’s Gizard, or Mutilation Guard.

You have the full 15 minutes to get this done. You can do it.

Boss Mode / Worlds Apart

Boss Mode / Worlds Apart is the first Conquest that is much easier to achieve with a group. At level 70, killing the listed bosses is next to no effort. Kill them all in 20 minutes? Now it’s a challenge!

If you’re working on this solo, your greatest effort will be in getting to the bosses. Some of them, like The Butcher and Adria, take quite a jog to get to. Like Belial and Malthael, others have two phases to their fights, so you can’t one-shot them and continue onward. And a few (Diablo and Urzael) are the worst combination of both — slow to find and slow to fight. Queue up as much mobility between your active and passive skills, paragon points, and gear bonuses. Don’t get me wrong, this will be difficult, but you can achieve this Conquest as a solo player.

If you’re tackling this with a group, it’s critical to remember that all party members must be present to get credit for the kills. Taking the portal to town before accepting the boss fight will save where you were on your current map. No loss of run progress is required.

Here are the bosses you need to kill for this Conquest:

  • The Skeleton King
  • The Butcher
  • Zoltun Kulle
  • Ghom
  • Cydaea
  • Rakanoth
  • Diablo
  • Adria
  • Queen Araneae
  • Maghda
  • Belial
  • Siegebreaker Assault Beast
  • Azmodan
  • Izual
  • Urzael
  • Malthael

The Curses! / Stars Align

Curses! / Stars Align is honestly quite fun in a full four-person party and can be done solo with the right class. The bulk of the effort is front-loaded.  First, you’ll want to look for a build that’s going to put out a good deal of Area or AOE damage because you’re racing against a clock where the standard goal is 100 enemies killed, not 350+. Multishot Demon Hunters and Meteor Wizards, this is your time to shine!

Next, try to hunt for these two specific Cursed events that have a better spawn rate: the Cursed Peat event in Act 5’s Paths of the Drowned or the Cursed Bellows event in Act 1’s Halls of Agony Level 3. Once the stars and planets align, kill your little heart out (but not literally, because ouch).

Years of War / Dynasty

Years of War / Dynasty is not the hardest to conquer in a season but can take a lot of time. This conquest’s expanded in-game description lists class sets and requires completing a GR55 Solo for each. Set gear drops all over the darn place, but since each character has a max of five sets allocated to it, you’ll need to have at least two level 70 characters in Seasonal play. A second 70 is easily achieved with a Gem of Ease (especially important for Hardcore and Solo Self Found players); alternatively, ping in the Seasonal Powerleveling Community in-game for some T6 rift speedruns to level your second character.

For players on the new Solo Self Found setting, I strongly recommend considering this for your third conquest. If you’re blasting with a group, you may want to consider Sprinter / Speed Racer, but even then you’re potentially facing many runthroughs before successful completion.

Diablo 3 Season 25 Tier Sets

Masters of the Universe / Masters of Sets

Masters of the Universe / Masters of Sets is considered one of the most frustrating Conquests to complete. Heck, they even removed the requirement to master one set dungeon from the season’s journey in favor of Echoing Nightmares. Now you want us to do eight?! Insanity. But that’s why these are considered Conquests.

The challenge here is two-fold — first, you need to gather eight sets (each class has four with associated dungeons) but the associated gear to do a set dungeon run. This means having at least two level 70 characters in Seasonal play.

The second half of the challenge is in the very name of the conquest — you have to master eight set dungeons. Set dungeons have two objectives — basic and mastery — that you need to knock out within the time limit. Set dungeons do not follow whatever difficulty your game is set to, so you don’t need to worry if you’ve forgotten to drop it down to Normal. Still, I highly recommend doing your homework first if you’re going to attempt this Conquest. Research the set dungeons, plan optimized routes, take the time to gather the right gear, and practice with the build. It’s not impossible to complete this, but the time investment will serve you well.

Sprinter / Speed Racer

Sprinter / Speed Racer is the most challenging conquest to complete in Season 29 when playing solo. The Conquest requires going through the entire story mode, Acts 1 through 5, with all the associated story and boss kills in under an hour. Knocking this out involves a lot of prep time and requires an excellent team working together.

In theory, this conquest is doable while soloing, but ouch. I don’t have a ton of good advice for this one other than working with friends who know the game; however, you’re on your own if you’re playing in the new Solo Self Found mode. Frankly, I would completely bypass this in SSF mode. If you do want to go for it — more power to you.

If you’re tackling this as a group — keep the communication lines open (voice chat is a boon here). Otherwise, my advice is the same regardless of solo play or group: within the game, set your difficulty to Normal, enable the “Skip Cut Scenes” option in the Gameplay settings, and skip through all optional NPC dialog with the spacebar. Stack movement speed boosts through gear and gems, and good luck to you.

And that’s it! The Season’s Journey will take some effort to complete, but now you’re a little more informed on how to complete it efficiently. Go tackle the Conquest achievements before the season ends; your cosmetic rewards await you!
