5 awesome cards to use at Marvel SNAP’s Featured Location, Shuri’s Lab

Marvel SNAP rolled out the first Featured Location of the new Warriors of Wakanda season, Shuri’s Lab. Featured Locations, for those unaware, typically change over on Tuesdays and make a specific location more likely to appear. These mini-events are the way SNAP adds new Locations to the game, and they are definitely worth some deck adjustments if you’re looking to win some matches.

Let’s take a look at some great cards to use while Shuri’s Lab is the Featured Location, though all of these cards will work to your benefit whenever you encounter Shuri’s Lab in the future.

What is Shuri’s Lab? What’s the key to winning when Shuri’s Lab is up?

Fans of the MCU will remember Shuri’s Lab from the 2018 Black Panther film where she demonstrated the new suit technology for T’Challa, and where she asked her brother, “what are those?” In Infinity War, it was the place where she raced against the clock to try to extract the Mind Stone from Vision. Shuri is the foremost expert on working with Vibranium. Combined with her incredible intelligence, she can enhance any technology.

The Shuri’s Lab Location (When you play a card here, double its Power) in Marvel SNAP plays off this ability. Whatever you play here will be more powerful after Shuri tinkers with it a bit. It is important to keep your order of operations clear as you play cards here. On Reveal effects fire before Location effects. This means your cards On Reveal will happen and then get doubled, creating the opportunity for some truly huge plays.

Great cards to use on Shuri’s Lab

Black Panther

This feels like the obvious choice for this list, both for function and flavor. Black Panther (On Reveal: Double this card’s Power) looks at Shuri’s Lab, and like Smart Hulk in Avengers: Endgame, he says “It’s like… I was made for this.” An unbuffed 4-Power Black Panther goes to 8 with the On Reveal, and then to 16 with Shuri’s Lab. The cards we talked playing when the season launched to play alongside Black Panther also get a boost from Shuri’s Lab. If you can get Wong (Ongoing: Your On Reveal abilities at this location happen twice) in play, or Odin (On Reveal: Activate the On Reveal abilities of your other cards at this location), Black Panther will grow exponentially.

Deadpool

Another card that doubles its power is Deadpool (When this is destroyed, return it to your hand with double the Power). Better yet, every time you kill Deadpool, he goes to back to your hand letting you play him again. Play him on Shuri’s Lab and he’ll have 2 Power. Destroy him, and he’ll go to 4 and return to your hand. Play him again at Shuri’s Lab, and he’ll be at 16 Power before you destroy him. If you can kill him again, he’ll be in your hand as a 32. The rest of the destroy package like Venom (On Reveal: Destroy your other cards at this location. Add their Power to this card), and Sabretooth (When this is destroyed, return it to your hand. It costs 0) also works well with Shuri’s Lab.

Human Torch

Flame on, indeed. Human Torch (When this moves, double its Power) is yet another card that doubles its power, and that effect is enhanced when you play him at Shuri’s Lab. It’s important to remember the Location text says “play” meaning the only time Human Torch is buffed by Shuri’s Lab is on the initial play. Moving Human Torch will to Shuri’s Lab will not trigger the doubling from the Lab, only Human Torch’s. For this reason, you want to play Johnny Storm at Shuri’s Lab to get the doubling started before you even move him. Honorable mention here to Multiple Man (When this moves, add a copy to the old location) who will get doubled from 3-Power to 6. When you move him, the 6-Power Multiple Man will copy over to the new Location.

I have my doubts this will be enough to make the movement archetype competitive in Pool 3, but we’ll soon find out.

Beast

Beast (On Reveal: Return your other cards at this location to your hand. They cost 1 less) is an interesting card to play at Shuri’s Lab. The idea would be to get three beefy cards at the Lab before turn five like Crossbones, Typhoid Mary, Drax, etc. When you play them initially, they get their attack doubled. On turn five, you play Beast. He sends them back to your hand with a reduced cost, but they retain their buffs. On turn six, you play them at Shuri’s Lab again, and they get doubled yet again. Taking something like Typhoid Mary (Ongoing: Your other cards have -1 Power) on an off the board can mess up your opponents calculations. You could also include Zero (On Reveal: Remove the abilities on the next card you play) to mitigate her downside. Beast doesn’t have quite the explosiveness of some of the other cards on this list, but it could surprise your opponent.

Armin Zola

Armin Zola (On Reveal: Destroy a random friendly card here; add copies of it to the other locations) plays a similar role with Shuri’s Lab as he does with Black Panther. He gives you a way to spread the buffed power from Shuri’s Lab to two other Locations. Since you might have multiple big minions at Shuri’s Lab, you can be a little more cavalier about what Zolo might pick when his On Reveal fires. Again, if you don’t have Zola, Taskmaster (On Reveal: Set this card’s Power equal to the Power of the last card you played) can come close to replicating the effect, but at only one Location.

What are your ideas?

Shuri’s Lab is a crash course in exponential growth. Whether it is in your Location pool due to the event, or just one of the randomly chosen ones after the event, hopefully these cards and tips help you win!
