The Queue: embarrassment of riches
Between the Steam Fall Sale last week, where I finally picked up both Bear and Breakfast and Bugsnax, Dragonflight this week, The Long Dark‘s first DLC releasing yesterday, and Hearthstone‘s March of the Lich King expansion and Overwatch 2‘s second season starting today, there’s so many freaking games on my plate that I’m so excited to sink my teeth into right now. Unfortunately, due to all the real life stuff I have going on, I barely had the chance to scrape the surface of any of them. I feel like the protagonist of that Twilight Zone episode with all the books.
This is The Queue, where you ask us questions and do you mind if we wait to answer until after we play a round or two?
Do you suppose visage forms are warm blooded?
Yes, via deductive reasoning Dracthyr must be warm blooded. Though sexual dimorphism is present throughout the animal kingdom, one of the defining set of characteristics of mammals is the ability to produce milk, so the females of those species tend to develop secondary characteristics to support that biological function. Since all mammals are warm blooded, and since the body 2 version of Dracthyr is somewhat bodacious in the breasticle region, it stands to reason that Dracthyr are likely warm blooded too.
I will not be taking any further questions or comments at this time.
QftQ: If someone were to want to learn how to sew for minor garment repairs (>99% holes in t-shirt underarms), what would they need, and what would be good resources for them to learninate themselves on that?
In my experience, the best place to learn how to do anything relatively basic — especially something like sewing where, if you mess up the worst that can happen is you mess up a relatively inexpensive thing — is YouTube. In most cases I’d caution you to watch at least a couple tutorials before you start anything, especially things like plumbing or electrical repair where you could injure yourself or seriously screw up your house, because that way you start to aggregate information and figure out which points are accurate and which aren’t. In this case, since it’s not that serious, you might be better off just finding one person whose teaching style you vibe with most who has a variety of tutorials of what you want to learn. While searching “water shut off valve to the toilet dear god” is effective if there’s something specific or pressing you want to do, as a novice there are going to be a whole lot of things that you don’t really know you don’t know that can be crucial to success (see: top coat for nail polish application), so just consuming content by a small handful of creators can help with that process.
With sewing in specific you can go to local fabric stores and see if they have demonstrations or classes, too. Usually, the classes are somewhat more in-depth, and frequently feature a theme like quilting or machine embroidery, which is well beyond what you’re looking to do. To just get your feet wet and learn how to re-do a seam or attach a button, YouTube is where it’s at.
Q4tQ Why do you think the Horde portal room has a basement? I’m convinced it’s because of that lowbie quest cave outside Orgrimmar which prevents them from expanding the room.
I’m not exactly sure but I like it a lot more than the Alliance long room. It’s less cluttered, more minimalist. The other portals are still there, just hidden, like a console with doors that close as opposed to an open shelf. The Horde even has automated brooms so they don’t have to clean off all that exposed brick-a-brack that comes with open shelving. Really, as dusty as the rest of Orgrimmar must be, having that additional compartment just makes sense.
Q4tQ: I guess there’s a Dragonflight commercial but I haven’t seen it aired anywhere. I watch a fair amount of the Cartoon Network, SYFY Network, FX and channels like that and would have thought I would have seen it played on them. I guess I’m not Blizzard’s targeted audience (lol). Has anyone seen it being played anywhere?
I haven’t seen it at all. I don’t watch a lot of regular broadcast TV, but I do watch quite a lot of online content with commercials. I’ve seen the Overwatch 2 Butterfinger commercial almost every day on Twitch, and I really don’t watch that much Twitch. I’m not sure why I’m being served Wix and Ulta instead of WoW on YouTube right now, because I already did my holiday shopping in person, and I can dev my own website thank you very much.
It’s really fascinating how web-based ad algorithms can work sometimes. However, that doesn’t really apply to broadcast TV, because while you can target the broad demographic, you can’t target the person. I wonder if they just assume everyone who’d want to play WoW cut the cord and pirates or streams instead.
