The Queue: Holiday Hours

Rutherford said it would be irresponsible to just sneak out the back when it’s our Queue day, and I see where he’s coming from, but since he can’t really operate a keyboard and Siri’s speech to text doesn’t understand bear, that means he gets to frolic in the snow while I do this.

World Quests and World Quest quests (ahem) reset on Tuesday at 10 am — with a daylight savings time asterisk — during the weekly rollover. The next World Quest reset happens midday Friday evening, 10 pm with the same asterisk, because they’re trying to evenly split the week with an odd number of days.

This is the same reset that really started during the N’Zoth Invasions during BfA. If you left and are just coming back, this may help as a frame of reference.

If your six month reup date was in October and you wanted to get yourself an annual today as a Christmas present, you would be charged today, and then the next time you would be charged would be after your full time expires, in April 2024.

For me the only true difference is that, because YouTube is an algorithmic discovery platform, with the spread of my interests, having esports there completely messes mine up. When I watch esports events, my algorithm suddenly starts pushing nothing but the big trending gaming creators, most of which I’m not interested in, especially the fan clip accounts. Then after I don’t click any of that for a couple days it just kinda reverts to showing the big trending accounts, which I’m also not interested in. Then, it’ll even out to musicals and history and house renovations and audiobooks — just in time for the next esports event.

I do like that Twitch has better infrastructure for things like Drops and giveaways, but that’s less important, for me.

In terms of the framework of the song, etc, it’s probably just the dude reminding his love that two days ago, it was a partridge, yesterday it was doves, and today it’s hens. However, I love the mental image of the absolute chaos erupting as this poor woman is trying to find places to put all these damned birds, are you serious, he sent more today? Where am I supposed to find a goose pond in the middle of December, Mark? Why did you send birds and then a marching band? What is the matter with you?

In practice, it’s pretty safe to assume that this lady is aristocracy and has servants and things to deal with all that bird poop. It’s not something either of the two real characters in the song would have to consider. It’s basically the 18th century version of those commercials where they try to tell you that buying anyone a surprise Lexus is something people do. The situation is completely bonkers for anyone except the few people who were, at this point in history, about to have a date with a guillotine for this exact reason.
