5 great decks to use for Marvel SNAP’s Featured Location, Pet Mansion

Marvel SNAP rolled out the first Featured Location of the new Animals Assemble season, Pet Mansion, and we’ve constructed some decks for you to try out there. Featured Locations, for those unaware, typically change over on Tuesdays and make a specific location more likely to appear. They are usually worth some deck adjustments if you’re looking to win some matches.

Let’s take a look at some great deck lists to use while Pet Mansion is the Featured Location, though all of these decks will work to your benefit whenever you encounter the Pet Mansion Location in the future.

What is the Pet Mansion in Marvel lore?

Behind the Avengers Mansion in New York City, you’ll find a small structure called the Pet Mansion. First seen in Avengers vs. Pet Avengers #4 (January, 2011), this building serves as the home base of the Pet Avengers, a band of hairy heroes that includes the likes of Lockjaw, Throg, Zabu, Redwing, and others. This comic chronicles the battle between the Pet Avengers and Fin Fang Foom’s dragon army. Oh, and the human Avengers are involved as well.

What’s the key to winning when Pet Mansion is up?

In Marvel SNAP, appropriately enough, Pet Mansion works as a little brother to Avenger’s Compound (On turn 5, all cards must be played here). Whatever turn Pet Mansion is revealed, that is the turn that all cards must be played there. There are clearly some cards you want to avoid playing here if it isn’t the center Location. These would be position-dependent cards like Mister Fantastic or Klaw.

It could also have some interesting interactions with the new card released today, Snowguard. Snowguard swaps between two forms, Bear and Hawk. Bear triggers the effect of the Location, so it could force players to play their cards at Pet Mansion but, since so few people have Snowguard, I haven’t seen how that interaction would work.

Many decks in the meta skip turns 1 and 2 and will just ignore Pet Mansion if it reveals itself early. They will simply continue on with their game plan. But let’s look at a couple of decks that might benefit from Pet Mansion.

Guardians of the Galaxy Deck

Knowing where your opponent will play their cards is a significant advantage to the Guardians of the Galaxy cards like Star Lord, Groot, and Gamora. Each of these cards receives a buff if your opponent played a card at the same Location that turn. Groot or Star Lord should be playable when Pet Mansion reveals, assuming you have drawn them. As an added bonus, you can play this deck while you watch the trailers for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie coming out in May.

Just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man here to make sure your opponent can’t play cards. Joining Spidey in locking down various lanes are Juggernaut, Goose, Storm, and Professor X. Pet Mansion further restricts your opponent’s ability to play cards where they want. But there’s been no sign of Spider-Ham… at least not yet.

This deck has a similar thought process to Lane Control. You try to give your opponent no where to play their cards. Green Goblin is a solid play in the Pet Mansion lane. Anything that forces your opponent to spread cards among their Locations aids your game plan and Pet Mansion does just that. This deck is also a fantastic Galactus counter.

Speaking of the big guy, the Galactus deck should see a small boost from Pet Mansion. This Location is forcing your opponent to play cards into a lane that you likely won’t use as your Galactus lane. Go ahead and drop Electro or Wave on Pet Mansion and get ready for drop the big guy.

While this deck doesn’t get any sort of bonus from Pet Mansion, I included to highlight Hit Monkey, the new season pass card for the Animals Assemble season. Hit Monkey has made an immediate effect on the meta and is seeing widespread play.

What are your ideas?

Pet Mansion isn’t the most impactful Featured Location we’ve had, but one of these decks should help you use it to your best advantage. Keep in mind that even as the Featured Location, there will still be matches that you don’t see Pet Mansion. Make sure your deck is flexible enough that you don’t have to retreat if you don’t get Pet Mansion in your Location pool.
