What would you like to see happen with Diablo 3 Seasons after June?

On June 6 of this year, Diablo 4 launches.

Right now, Diablo 3 is in the midst of Season 28, and that’s likely to end just before June. That means that we currently don’t know if there will be a Season 29 or not. With Diablo 4 releasing and having its own Season play — and Diablo 2: Resurrected still seeing development and patches as well as Ladder Season updates — the question becomes not, “What do you want to see from Diablo 3 Season 29?” to “Will there be a Season 29?” but I find myself hoping there will. But that’s because I think the specific way that Themed Seasons have played out in Diablo 3 since Season 14 is valuable and should be preserved.

Neither Diablo 2: Resurrected nor the upcoming Diablo 4 are likely to ever have a Season as ludicrous as Season 14, or one as metagame heavy as Season 18. The way Seasons developed in Diablo 3 was something truly special, culminating in what I think is one of the most baroque and interesting Seasons of all time in Season 28, and I find it horribly sad to think we’ve seen the last of that kind of constantly refreshing, constantly iterating content. Refinements and innovations like the Echoing Nightmares of Season 26 or the Follower revamp of Season 23 changed the way Diablo 3 played in a fundamental way that’s pretty impressive for a game that was launched over a decade ago now.

So yes, I want to see Blizzard keep a small team working on Diablo 3 and Seasons for it.

But what about you? Do you think that having Diablo Immortal, Diablo 2: Resurrected, and Diablo 4 all in development at once is too much already, and that there’s simply no way to justify Diablo 3 getting the kind of development that a continuing set of Seasons would consist of? Should the game just forever be in Season 28 from now on, with the very complex Altar of Rites mechanic basically becoming the new permanent end state of the game? Or should all Seasons end and D3 become a game like StarCraft 2 or Heroes of the Storm
