The Queue: Fresh never frozen
He’s ground beef! Get it?!
We have our Mythic Kurogg kill and with that, we’ve gotten 5/8 of Vault down on Mythic!! This was a tough one to finally crack. We couldn’t lose two people before the final elemental phase, or we’d not have the damage to get through it. There were four or five sub-five percent wipes tonight; each one could’ve been a kill if not for avoidable mistakes in that final burn. Still, we have him down now and there was much rejoicing!
We’re unlikely to move to try and kill Mythic Dathea as even Cutting Edge guilds have said that they dread reclearing her — especially with only a pair of raid nights left in this patch. But I consider this a great success for my scrappy little two-night-a-week team!
While I pat all of my raiders on the back again for our excellent, totally clean, and certainly not both tanks dead for the last 2% kill, it’s time for — The Queue!
QftQ: Pet Battles are a great side activity for WoW, obviously… inspired seems too weak a word for it, but influenced by Pokémon. What other games do you think WoW could adapt into minigames?
I’d like to have a list of other video games that we could push in, but so many of them feel like they’d really suffer with the latency we see in Warcraft a lot of the time. So we need to get more basic games in, and for that, I’m looking right at the carnival. Let’s get some aim the water into a clown mouth style mini-games or pop balloons/break plates. Either of those would work pretty well with vehicle controls, and not be completely awful for players with lag like the Flappy Bird quests in Bastion.
I’d also like to see some darts/axe throwing in pubs. We have so many Troll axe throwers who are probably out of a job since the second war, why not put them to good use!
QftQ: So, what holiday would you prefer never existed? Not that I don’t love ’em, but parental holidays would be first to go in my regime. That’s even as a dad, regarding Father’s Day in the US.
I don’t think I can do it. I need them all, even the nonsense ones that are clearly just propped up by greeting card companies. If anything we should elevate some of the random “International ____ day” things from Twitter into proper holidays. Not that I need much excuse to want to wish people a happy International Taco day, but it really does help to have some extra societal push there. Plus who wouldn’t want to know that in 50 years International Taco day has become an extra bank holiday and everyone gets to have a long weekend full of tacos!
Sensitive issue perhaps but here it goes:
What is the meanest thing you have done in WoW?
We all do bad stuff now and then, sometimes inadvertently, sometimes because we feel, well, Mean. There’s a monster inside us all, you know.
Worst thing I’ve done like ever was very mean indeed. This happened when Wrath of the Lich King had been live for a few months. Shuanna was level 80 and doing stuff to pass the time and earn some gold, like farming minerals and skinning. Yes, she’s a paladin. Skinning used to be profitable although her hunting techniques was unusual (smack with mace, skin with knife).I was killing animals in the Wetlands when this level twenty someting dwarf comes runnin´down the road. He stops and says:
“Whoa! A level 80! Hey!? Where can I buy XP!?”
(This was long before the Character Boost.) I stopped killing stuff and /say:
“Go to Icecrown Citadel. There’s an NPC there who sell XP.”
The dwarf was so pleased with my helpfullness that he traded me a full silver coin. That was like half of his fortune. I gave him back the silver plus some gold coins and went my merry way, snickering like a sadistic grandparent.
I never saw him again. I did however get a whisper from him some time later. It was very rude. Very rude indeed. I laughed out so loud that my cats woke up once I realized my prank had worked.
Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
Well, I constantly create Old Portal Dalaran whenever I’m on one of my Mage characters. I’m never going to stop trying to drop people to their deaths! It’s a valuable lesson in reading the tooltip on that portal that just popped up.
That’s not the meanest thing I’ve ever done though. There’s lots of low-grade trolling in my Trade Chat logs if you go back far enough. Back in the before times when people actually used Trade Chat. Now I tend to be more helpful in general chats, when I’m even still part of them, because I tend to look only at Guild/Raid/Party chats now. Who’s got the energy to deal with all those randos? Not me!
I’d say that the meanest thing I ever did though was bullying another character out of an upgrade on the Black Market Auction House back in Mists of Pandaria. I had a fairly sizable pile of gold and we were clearly both bidding on them so I just opened trade and showed them how big my hoard was and told them that I could raise the price all day if that’s what they really wanted.
Not the best way to promote server unity and the spirit of competition between raid teams. I really wanted that piece though! We weren’t going to get to that boss for so long and they were BiS. Thankfully, I’ve become much chiller about loot in the nearly ten years since then.
With how popular things like Cyberpunk Edgerunners or LoL Arcane ended up being, I could easily see the next WoW spin off project being a streaming series. If that was true, and it was animated as opposed to live action, dibs on Steve Blum voicing Arthonos as he wades through the battle field in Shadowy glory melting faces.
Well, that’s rude, what if I wanted Steve Blum to voice my Bear in an animated project?! He can only do so many raspy-voiced characters in one show after all!
Fine though, I guess I can make do with Idris Elba. If I have to. I guess.
That’s based almost entirely off of the speech he gives in the first Pacific Rim movie though. I love the way he delivers on “canceling the apocalypse.” Everything else he does is great too, but if I can’t get the chaotic Steve Blum rasp as seen in Zoltan Kulle, Starscream, and Green Goblin then I’ll gladly take firey commander.
Have some very root root root for the home team energy going into your vault this week! Not only that but after going down 3 goals in the first period the Oilers fought back to win in overtime, so this is definitely the right kind of luck to take into one of the final weeks of Season One vaults. Maybe you’ll finally get that last piece you’ve been hunting for! Bacardi believes in you, you can do it!
Today’s Anna Earworm™: La Bamba
La Bamba is the Edmonton Oilers victory song so it felt appropriate to put it in here, hopefully, it’s not the last time I hear it over the next few weeks! Also hopefully you’ll all leave Anna with lots of questions for tomorrow!
