The Queue: Power, Wisdom, and Courage… but mostly Power

Another Splatfest down, another win for Shiver. #TeamShiver may have not won all of the Splatfests, but we’ve certainly won a lot — and in this case, it was a Shiver Sweep. Sorry in advance if we’ve doomed the kingdom (maybe this is why it’s crying?).

Anyhow, that’s Splatears of the Kingtoon.

This is The Queue.

ARTHONOS LEADS US OFF WITH THE OBLIGATORY:

Q4tQ: Are you getting Tears of the Kingdom on Friday? If so, physical or digital, and are you getting it at midnight? I haven’t been to a midnight launch in years, and I’m slightly tempted to go, but most likely I’ll just grab it early in the morning.

TBH, this is one of my pet peeves with the slow transition into digital content (and it’s an issue with a lot of games) — I would absolutely 100% be playing it digitally at midnight…

…but because I wanted to get the physical collector’s version, I need to wait until that arrives to play. I know that’s, like, half a day and not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I actually like the model only a few companies have done where you either 1) buy the collector’s edition and opt for a digital code that can’t be returned or 2) just plain don’t include the game in a collector’s edition, lower the overall price, and let players decide how and when they wanna purchase the game itself.

But most companies don’t do this and instead bundle the game to the physical collector’s box itself, even if they’re just bundling a code.

Anyhow, this is a very #firstworldproblems tangent. I miss midnight launches and actually DID do it for the Breath of the Wild/Switch launch. If you’re not in a rush to play and a nearby store has the version you want, midnight launches can be a lot of fun. If it weren’t dungeon night, I’d be tempted to check out one locally just to hang and chill with a buncha nerds.

LEFTY WANTS TO KNOW WHAT’S REASONABLE:

QftQ (inspired by Jæksdædi): Do you feel like a 3 hour cooldown on the Mailbox toys is too excessive? If so, what would be more reasonable to you?

I say 20 minutes would be fine with me.

In general, I wish Toys had shorter cooldowns. I know in some instances, Blizz has upped cooldowns or nerfed where things can be used when Toys become used in an exploit (lounge cushions, for a while, could be used in instances to get through some invisible walls). Frankly, when I see a long cooldown, I assume it’s because a shorter one, across all servers, would break something.

Is that true? Probably not. More than likely, Toys are batched given a cooldown based on their designated batch and it would be far too laborious to go through and test what feels “right” across Toys. But I do feel like Blizz has been paying closer attention to some QOL stuff like this, so if it’s a wide enough complaint, I could see the cooldown being reduced.

MUSEDMOOSE WANTS TO KNOW MY SECRET TO SUCCESS:

Q4tQ: when do you have your most successful LFR runs? Asking because I’ve always waited until the weekend, and many of my attempts have been… not great. But I’m busy this weekend, so I ran the new wing today, and it went completely smoothly. Not only did we never wipe, we never had more than two people die in a fight. And it was a quiet, efficient run without anyone starting drama. It almost didn’t feel like LFR.

Personally, I’ve tended to have the best LFR runs on Tuesday/Wednesday when the folks who really want the gear are pushing after reset. My worst runs are Sunday/Monday nights when people remembered reset is soon and feel obligated to run LFR but don’t really “feel” it, y’know?

Thursday through Saturday can be hit or miss depending on time of day.

SOEROAH, SAME:

*Looks at new weekly stuff*

I think I’m finally starting to feel overwhelmed with Dragonflight

Might just be because last week’s hours of story kept me from completing a few things and I’m still trying to do the feast each week, but if I can swap that out with the researchers event… on my main, because I don’t want my alts to get too much Loamm rep yet… and I need to find out how many collectables the Assaults have..

Dragonflight is overwhelming if you let it be, and it’s really hard not to shake the feeling of “I’m not doing enough.”

But that’s what I’ve been trying to do this expansion and it’s… well, when I play, I feel like I’m making the most of my time and having a lot of fun. When I’m not playing, I feel like I should be playing things I consider less fun just because everyone else is and it feels like I should be.

At the end of the day, it’s totally okay to just… not finish a goal you had for WoW. Daily, weekly, holiday-based, whatever. The FOMO is real, but the game is still better with less pressure.

SOEROAH ALSO HAD AN ACTUAL QUESTION:

If you create gear yourself, can anyone do a workorder to recraft it at a higher quality?

Yes!

Wow, that was easy.

KALCHEUS POSITS A THEME:

Thought:
Season 1 has the Crimson Gladiator.
Season 2 has the Obsidian Gladiator.

Five Dragonflights. Five Seasons?

That would actually be pretty cool, but I don’t think we’ll get 5 Seasons in Dragonflight. I feel like these mounts are themed to the Dragonflight of focus for a given patch. If Season 3’s Big Bad is an Infinite Dragon? We might get a, uh… Sandy Gladiator.

But if it’s a completely new Dragonflight that is the result of some Old God h*ckery, we’ll get something like a Tentacled Voidian Gladiator.

RJAGODA WANTS THOUGHTS:

Thoughts [on this tweet about rare loot on other difficulties]? I don’t have a problem with it being Mythic-only. There was one skin that was available across all difficulties (Rasz) and everything other mount since Mythic difficulty was created has been locked to Mythic (and a low drop rate after the season).

I don’t know if you mean the quote-tweet or the original but either way: I think it’s a good thing that players can get it on the other difficulties. It’s an incredibly small chance but it still opens the door for more players to get a fun, cool cosmetic.

As far as the Gladiator mount thing? I think it’s a different loot philosophy and you have more nuance to brackets than just 4 difficulties so I’m not sure this really fits in that loot system. If Blizz did put the high-level Gladiator as a low drop chance for arena players?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That’s us for today! Enjoy your weeks, weekends, and beyond! (And don’t forget questions for tomorrow’s writer.)
