The Queue: Night shift
In what is becoming a trend this week, I started writing this very, very early in the morning. Of course, I didn’t finish it early in the morning — but I was definitely workin’ the night shift to get this prepped.
Anyhow, it’s time for The Queue.
QftQ: Is it Mitch time?
Oh yeah, it’s Mitch Time™.
Q4tQ: I think as penance for canceling the PVE mode for Overwatch2, Blizz should restart development on Starcraft Ghost. Anyone else in agreement? Besides Hitman are there even any other action stealth games left for SC Ghost to compete with?
I would say yes, but I don’t want my heart broken all over again. I understand why it doesn’t happen at a massive company like Blizzard, but I really wish more companies would go the indie route of “announce –> play today” or, at the very least, “announce –> available this year.” Something to shorten the timeline and make it so announced games are actually, y’know, 90% likely to make it across the finish line.
(Also, if we’re subbing games in for OW2, I’d still love a Warcraft 4, whether in the past or a side-story taking place parallel to WoW, I don’t care. I just want another mainline Warcraft RTS.)
So, when you say ‘asking for a friend’ and you really are asking for a friend how would one make this clear?
Asking for a friend…
I try to say “genuinely,” or “I swear I really am asking for a friend…” and if people don’t believe me after that, that’s on them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Q4tQ: how was your first Great Vault of the new tier?
Mine was surprisingly good. I got a neck piece that had an insane amount of crit on it – even more after I upgraded it. (I love the upgrade system, I swear.) Between that, winning a wrist drop in LFR, and getting a new staff from a WQ, my fire mage’s crit is now at 52%. It’s kind of amazing.
A solid “eh” for mine. All three of my raid rewards were the same item level as what I had but worse stats, and the only upgrade I did have was a cloak with non-ideal stats. But at the end of the day, 20+ item levels was worth it lol.
“Aonuma says Tears of the Kingdom will be the format for the Legend of Zelda going forward”
Rip the last story-focused Nintendo IP I guess
I mean this as politely as possible, but how much of Tears have you actually played? I have a little Discord group going with some IRL friends and if there’s one thing we all agree on — in between spoiler tags and progressing at wildly different rates — it’s that this is WAY more story-focused than Breath of the Wild was.
Is it non-linear? Sure! But it’s also — and this applies to BOTW as well — a game that is built VERY deliberately. I don’t think BOTW gets enough credit for the amount of breadcrumbs it leaves for players to follow, and Tears has continued that trend in spades. You don’t have to follow any of them (after a certain point) but that random quest you just picked up? It probably had 3 different instances of the game pointing you toward it you didn’t even notice.
The games are non-linear and they are subtle and they clearly want players to have options for how they play. But they definitely are not lacking in story.
ps: Bowser took Peach to the moon to have a wedding and got left at the altar by some jumpy man, who then ALSO was shot down by Peach before she almost left them both behind with no way home. What is that if not a great story? ;P
If you were making a early 90s pc platforming game, what key would you make the jump button if not spacebar and enter?
I’d make it a combo, so you had to hit Down Arrow –> Up Arrow to initiate a jump. (In order to crouch, of course, you’d have to do the opposite sequence.)
That or, um, Shift?
Q4tQ: is Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone’ a club jam, or an Introvert’s Anthem? Discuss.
I suppose it depends if you go purely based off lyrics or if you take the music video (NSFW-ish) into account.
The song lyrics indicate someone who is lookin’ for a dumb night out at the club after being spurned by a lover. From that POV, it’s an anthem for someone who wants to jam rather than the person on the other end who clearly had no interest in goin’ out to that club and sip that bub’.
The music video, meanwhile, shows someone who initially struggles to make friends in prison but very quickly overcomes this with scantily clad group dances. Even after escaping prison, Gaga and her partner Bey seem pretty happy together but do, in fact, decide to mass murder a diner or something. They’re not going to come back (especially with the police on their tails), but they’re running away… together.
So I think this one has to be a club jam until we find evidence to suggest otherwise.
That’s our Queue for today! I hope you all have a lovely week, and I’ll see ya next time! Please be sure to leave lots of questions for tomorrow’s writer :)
