5 great decks to use for Marvel SNAP’s new Featured Location, Lake Hellas

Marvel SNAP rolled out the first Featured Location of its new Rise of the Phoenix ranked season, Lake Hellas, and we’ve got some awesome decks for you to try out there. Featured Locations, for those unaware, typically change over on Tuesdays and make a specific Location more likely to appear. They are usually worth some deck adjustments if you’re looking to win some matches.

Let’s take a look at some great deck lists to help you fly to victory while Lake Hellas is the Featured Location, though all of these decks will work to your benefit whenever you encounter the Lake Hellas Location in the future.

What is the significance of Lake Hellas in Marvel lore?

As the heroes of Earth turned their attention from terrestrial threats to more intergalactic foes, they recognized their need for installations and bases beyond Earth’s orbit. S.H.I.E.L.D morphed into S.W.O.R.D, a development we’re seeing in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe. Part of this shift of focus was a project to terraform Mars, and establish a diplomatic installation to host denizens from far beyond the solar system. This would become the Lake Hellas Diplomatic Ring. In S.W.O.R.D. Vol 29, the Shi’ar Empress Xandar, makes her first formal visit to the Lake Hellas Diplomatic Ring only to be targeted by Captain Glory and the Blood Brothers.

What’s the key to winning when Lake Hellas is up?

Lake Hellas is all about buffing your 1-Energy cards. To take full advantage of the Location, you want as many 1-Energy cards here as you can get. You also might want to thrown an Armor down because anytime 1-Energy cards become popular it brings out their natural predators like Electra and Killmonger.

Ultron Patriot is a staple deck in SNAP. It isn’t always a top of the meta deck, but it’s rarely worse than tier 2. Make sure to play Ultron at a Location other than Lake Hellas so your Ultron drones receive the Lake Hellas buff.

This deck plays plenty of 1-Energy cards along with Kazar to buff them. It also has a Dracula package. Dracula is a difficult card to counter since he doesn’t receive his power until after the game is over.

This is a budget deck for players who may not yet have completed their Series 2 collections. Play as many 1-Energy cards as you can and buff them with Kazar and Lake Hellas.

While this deck just received a fairly significant nerf, it does run several solid 1-Energy cards. Lake Hellas alone won’t bring this deck to the top of the meta, but it should more viable while Lake Hellas is the Featured Location.

This deck aims to counter the decks trying to take advantage of Lake Hellas. Destroy is a strong deck in the current meta regardless of if you get Lake Hellas as a Location or not. Killmonger is natural counter to all the 1-Energy cards other players are using to take advantage of the Featured Location.

What are your ideas?

It is somewhat ironic that a Location that would have benefited Bounce drops just after the deck received a major nerf. Keep in mind that even as the Featured Location, there will still be matches that you don’t see Lake Hellas. You want to make sure your deck is flexible enough that you don’t have to retreat if you don’t get Lake Hellas in your Location pool.
