What’s your favorite WoW expansion and why?

I ask myself often which World of Warcraft expansion is my favorite, because I don’t know the answer.

Or more accurately, I suppose, my favorite changes depending on what I’m currently feeling. For a lot of years, I liked Burning Crusade the most because it was when I really got into the raid game full bore and tanked the hardest fights in the game. And for a while I used to say Cataclysm just because it annoyed so so many people, and also because I liked the lore of the expansion in general — although I was and am still disappointed that we got two Deathwing fights and he’s never depicted as cunning and intelligent in either of them.

Nowadays, I often rank Dragonflight near the top, and at times I see it jockeying for position with Mists of Pandaria, which has been one of my favorites for a long time. In the case of these expansions it was the speed of content delivery — up to the pre-expansion lulls, at least — and the many ways one could approach it. I like being able to play a variety of ways, group content like raids and dungeons, solo content like World Quests and events, and the way that lore kept being expanded and delivered really made me happy to log on every day.

Sadly, the expansion I’d expected to be my favorite, Legion, ended up setting up the destruction of Teldrassil and made me almost unable to play Battle for Azeroth, and as such, I no longer think of it as one of my favorites. But I have to admit that while I was playing the expansion, Legion did an amazing job on making me invested in its story and I loved the Artifacts, loved the raids, and thought Argus one of the best implementations of a final zone/zones in any WoW expansion.
