When does Diablo 4 Season 1 end? The first Season will wrap up in October

Diablo 4 released June 6, 2023, and Season 1 started a whopping 45 days later. The Season of the Malignant has a lot going on with four types of Malignant hearts to socket into jewelry, a Battle Pass rewards transmogs and power-up options, and a Seasonal Journey culminating in some sharp rewards — including new legendary aspects and a Scroll of Amnesia to reset your build for free. It’s shiny, new, just a bit overwhelming, and only here for three months: Diablo 4 Season 1 ends October 17, 2023.

Blizzard officially announced the Season 1 start date in advance, which is a new phenomenon. Through 28 seasons of Diablo 3, we had to wait until the PTR announcement to pitch a precise guess as to when the current Season might end, and even then it was a guess. Having a clear end date is significant in a couple of ways. First, announcing the end date gives players a range to target to complete the Seasonal Journey and Battle Pass. Season 1 will run 90 days from its start on Thursday, July 20, to its end on Tuesday, October 17. By giving the community a clear range, Blizzard potentially trades consistent engagement in favor of open communication. Players can blast through however many hours it takes to complete all objectives and subsequently step away until mid-October. However, engagement may not be as much of a concern because…

Having the end date available from the onset means you can take a break. It is okay if you’re not feeling the Season of the Malignant. Go spend time playing your first (or second, or third…) character on the Eternal (i.e. — non-seasonal) server. Skip Season 1, and know you’ll have another chance to enjoy something new in roughly three months.

Finally, the length of Season 1 also aligns with the Diablo team’s planned cadence. The development team cited four seasons a year as their Diablo 4 target in one of the pre-release roundtables, so a 90-day cycle fits neatly into their plans. The flip side is a quick seasonal turnaround — Season 2’s October 17 start date means we’re rolling directly from one season into another.

Season 1 is Diablo 4‘s first season. It won’t be perfect right out of the gate. We’ve had three hotfixes since the season started, and frankly, we’ll probably see a few more as little bugs and quirks pop up. Regardless, we know it ends October 17, 2023. It’s either three months to play your heart out and earn all the Battle Pass transmog your little heart desires or a target date for when the Malignant leave Sanctuary. No matter what you’re playing — have fun.
