How to get and use the regular, Foul, and Tormented Invoker of Varshan in Diablo 4

Diablo 4’s Season 1 added a new repeatable boss fight, Varshan, the Consumed, which first shows up during the new Seasonal storyline — but after you defeat him and finish the questline, you’ll learn how to begin crafting items that allow you to repeat the process, and there are some great rewards for doing so.

In order to fight Varshan again, you need to craft and use an Invoker of Varshan — but that’s only for the “easy” fight on World Tiers 1 and 2. You’ll need new recipes and new items for the harder Varshan fights on World Tiers 3 and 4. So read on to untangle this mystery and learn how to earn yourself some nice seasonal loot.

How to earn, craft, and use the Invoker of Varshan in Diablo 4 to fight the Echo of Varshan

As you progress through the Seasonal storyline, you’ll eventually defeat Varshan, the Consumed. Once he goes down, he drops a crafting recipe for an Invoker of Varshan, which is the item you need to repeat the fight.

To craft the Invoker of Varshan, head to Cormond’s Workbench in Kyovashad. The recipe requires the following items:

  • Brutal Malignant Invoker
  • Vicious Malignant Invoker
  • Devious Malignant Invoker
  • Demon Heart
  • 1000 Gold

To use the Invoker of Varshan, go to any Malignant Tunnel and clear it. You’re looking for a special door in front of a healing well at the end. The door doesn’t spawn in every Malignant tunnel — so if you can’t find it, you’ll need to head to another Malignant Tunnel and try again.

Once you do find that door, open it and head into the room, where there’s a Monstrous Outgrowth. Interacting with it consumes your Invoker of Varshan (if you have one), and starts the Echo of Varshan, a level 50 boss fight.

The Invoker of Varshan only works on World Tiers 1 and 2. You need to use it and defeat the Echo of Varhsan at those Tiers at least once if you want to get the higher tier version of the same item, called the Foul Invoker of Varshan, which will unlock a more advanced fight on World Tier 3.

How to earn, craft and use the Foul Invoker of Varshan in Diablo 4 to fight the Nightmare Echo of Varshan

The Foul Invoker of Varshan only works on World Tier 3, and requires you to have defeated the Echo of Varshan on the previous World Tiers at least once. Once you do so, it’ll drop the Foul Invoker of Varshan recipe. Just like with the previous Invoker, it’s crafted at the Workbench in Kyovashad, requiring the following items:

  • 50 Sigil Powder
  • Invoker of Varshan
  • 1000 Gold

Sigil Powder can be obtained by salvaging Nightmare Sigils at an Occultist NPC in the major cities, so you’ll need to at least have started running those Nightmare Dungeons before you try this.

Once you have the Foul Invoker, the process to start the boss fight is the same as before: head to a Malignant Tunnel, clear it, hope you find the special door. If you do, you’ll be able to summon the Nightmare Echo of Varshan, a level 60 boss.

This version of the boss is much harder than the regular Echo of Varshan from lower tiers — you’ll actually need to work for the kill. Once you do beat him, you’ll get a second recipe: this time for the Tormented Invoker of Varshan, which you can only use on World Tier 4.

How to earn, craft and use the Tormented Invoker of Varshan in Diablo 4 to fight the Tormented Echo of Varshan

You guessed it: you’ll need to go back to the Workbench to craft the Tormented Invoker of Varshan, this time on World Tier 4. The required items are:

  • 5 Forgotten Souls
  • Invoker of Varshan
  • 5 Fiend Roses
  • 1000 Gold

These are rarer items that require you to run Helltide events. Do also note that it asks for a regular Invoker of Varshan, not a Foul one.

Once you do earn all the items and craft your Tormented Invoker, it’s time to once again head into a Malignant Tunnel, clear it, look for the secret door near a healing well at the end, and interact with the Monstrous Outgrowth to summon the toughest version of the boss.

The Tormented Echo of Varshan is a level 80 boss, and he can be really tough. But the fight is worth it, since this boss drops items such as Malignant Hearts (with a chance at Wrathful Hearts), seasonal materials, and higher-end gear.

Hopefully you’ve managed to untangle this very complex set of instructions for crafting items and summoning bosses — and may your drops be plentiful!
