All of the Tier 7 minions in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5
Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5 added 14 powerful Tier 7 minions to the game mode. However, these minions won’t be accessible every game: right now, there are only two circumstances in which they’ll show up. First, if a player picks new hero Thorim, Stormlord, they’ll get to Discover a Tier 7 minion once they spend 65 gold. In those cases, that’s the only Tier 7 minion showing up that game — assuming it doesn’t get copied or something similar.
But the real party happens when a specific Anomaly is present in the game. Anomalies are a new gameplay mechanic from Season 5 that introduces a big game-changing effect to every game before it begins. One particular Anomaly, called Secrets of Norgannon, adds Tavern Tier 7 to the game, meaning that every player can upgrade their tavern to that level — and there will be five copies of each Tier 7 minion for players to find. But besides buying them from the tavern, in those games players will also be able to acquire Tier 7 minions from other means, such as getting triples once they’re at Tier 6, or from Patient Scout.
Check out the other Anomalies you can get in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5!
Now that we know how Tier 7 minions may show up in games, let’s meet them — or refresh our memories as to what’s available.
Argent Braggart
- 1 Attack, 1 Health. Battlecry: Set this minion’s Attack and Health to the highest in the battlefield.
- (Golden) 2 Attack, 2 Health. Battlecry: Set this minion’s Attack and Health to double the highest in the battlefield.
Argent Braggart already exists as a top tier Darkmoon Prize, which speaks volumes about the card’s power — but in that form, he’s a one-off minion. Now, players will get to play with multiple copies of him.
Papa Bear (Beast)
- 12 Attack, 12 Health. Deathrattle: Summon 3 Mama Bears.
- (Golden) 24 Attack, 24 Health. Deathrattle: Summon 3 Golden Mama Bears.
As we know, Beasts thrive by summoning other Beasts in the middle of combat. Mama Bear enhances that feature by making those Beasts even stronger. So you might want to ensure that your Papa Bear dies once there’s enough room for the Mamas, but still plenty of other Beasts to be summoned.
Champion of Sargeras (Demon)
- 10 Attack, 10 Health. Minions in the Tavern have +10/+10.
- (Golden) 20 Attack, 20 Health. Minions in the Tavern have +20/+20.
This is a Tier 7 minion that will be useful for all players — but Demons, in particular, will enjoy those buffed minions because of their plethora of effects that consume minions from the tavern.
King Varian
- 9 Attack, 9 Health. When you sell this, Discover two tier 6 minions.
- (Golden) 18 Attack, 18 Health. When you sell this, Discover four tier 6 minions.
It’s odd that Varian probably won’t be in the battlefield for too long, since his main use is being sold to Discover other minions — but greedier players that stick with him and manage to get a golden copy will get tremendous value.
Recurring Nightmare (Undead)
- 5 Attack, 5 Health. Deathrattle: Give a different friendly Undead “Deathrattle: Summon a Recurring Nightmare.”
- (Golden) 10 Attack, 10 Health. Deathrattle: Give a different friendly Undead “Deathrattle: Summon a Golden Recurring Nightmare.”
This minion refuses to die. On a typical Undead board, full of minions with Reborn, it might keep coming back again and again — though it remains to be seen how effective that strategy will be, since it doesn’t benefit from ever-increasing stats like Eternal Knight does.
Moira Bronzebeard
- 3 Attack, 9 Health. Your Battlecries and Deathrattles trigger twice.
- (Golden) 6 Attack, 18 Health. Your Battlecries and Deathrattles trigger three times.
We know Hearthstone likes to rewrite World of Warcraft lore, but did the unlikely duo of Brann Bronzebeard and Titus Rivendare have shared custody of Moira when she was growing up? Regardless of the lore, she combines the effects from those two ever-popular minions, which already says all that you need to know about how powerful she’ll be.
Captain Sanders (Pirate)
- 7 Attack, 7 Health. Battlecry: Make a friendly minion Golden.
- (Golden) 14 Attack, 14 Health. Battlecry: Make a friendly minion Golden.
Sadly his effect doesn’t change on the Golden version — but it’s not like it needs to, since it’s already a very powerful effect. It’s Reno Jackson’s hero power on a stick; of course it’s gonna be good.
Tide Oracle Morgl (Murloc)
- 1 Attack, 10 Health. Poisonous. When this attacks and kills a minion, give its maximum stats to a minion in your hand.
- (Golden) 2 Attack, 20 Health. Poisonous. When this attacks and kills a minion, give double its maximum stats to a minion in your hand.
Note that this minion is actually Poisonous, not just Venomous — which gives it an edge over other Murlocs, and ensures that its powerful kill effect can trigger multiple times per match.
Granite Guardian (Elemental)
- 1 Attack, 17 Health. Taunt. Whenever this is attacked, reduce the attacker’s Health to 1.
- (Golden) 2 Attack, 34 Health. Taunt. Whenever this is attacked, reduce the attacker’s Health to 1.
Another one whose power doesn’t change on the Golden version — but the important thing is just getting its Health to be as high as possible (and hoping the enemy minion doesn’t have a Venomous effect or similar).
Sea Witch Zar’jira (Naga)
- 4 Attack, 5 Health. Spellcraft: Choose a different minion in the Tavern to get a copy of.
- (Golden) 8 Attack, 10 Health. Spellcraft: Choose a different minion in the Tavern to get two copies of.
Chances are high that this minion will be extremely useful for any player that can get her. The Golden version, in particular, will make finding triples much easier — but even the regular version will already save you a lot of gold every turn. Seems very solid.
Amalgadon (All)
- 6 Attack, 6 Health. Battlecry: For each different minion type you control, randomly Adapt.
- (Golden) 12 Attack, 12 Health. Battlecry: For each different minion type you control, randomly Adapt twice.
Now that he’s at Tier 7, Amalgadon has been reverted back to a powerful previous version which once terrorized the Battlegrounds. We expect that to be true once more — though that also hinges on how good Menagerie builds will be in general.
Obsidian Ravager (Dragon)
- 4 Attack, 4 Health. Whenever this attacks, deal damage equal to its Attack to the target and an adjacent minion.
- (Golden) 8 Attack, 8 Health. Whenever this attacks, deal damage equal to its Attack to the target and its neighbors.
Minions with cleave effects — that is, the ability to damage adjacent minions to its target — are always in demand. This one gets a cleave that can also bust Divine Shields, by dealing damage before the attack — as a few Dragons used to do in the past. The only downside is that it has a low base attack for such a late-game minion — but that’s nothing some scaling can’t fix.
The Boommobile (Mech)
- 12 Attack, 12 Health. Magnetic, Reborn, Divine Shield, Taunt, Windfury.
- (Golden) 24 Attack, 24 Health. Magnetic, Reborn, Divine Shield, Taunt, Windfury.
Simple. Precise. Perfect. Magnetize this onto any Mech, and that minion becomes a powerhouse. The Golden version adds even more stats, because that’s all it needs.
Sanguine Champion (Quilboar)
- 9 Attack, 3 Health. Battlecry and Deathrattle: Your Blood Gems give an extra +1/+1 this game.
- (Golden) 18 Attack, 6 Health. Battlecry and Deathrattle: Your Blood Gems give an extra +2/+2 this game.
It’s a simple Quilboar doing what Quilboars do best: buffing Blood Gems. The amount may seem a bit low for a minion that’s supposed to be the capstone to a Quilboar build — but that’s nothing that auxiliary minions like Rivendare, Brann, or the brand-new Moira can’t help him with.
We’ve been enjoying playing with these new ultra-powerful minions when they show up, though we are curious as to their fate in the seasons going forward!
