The Queue: Expect the Unexpected

You are all on punishment for not notifying me that Easter is this Sunday. Add on one more thing to my to-do list.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us questions and we’ll give you answers just as soon as we finish stuffing all these dang plastic eggs.

Q4tQ Do you plan on participating in Operation Gnomeregan and/or Zalazane’s Fall on the Wrath Classic servers?

It’s kind of funny, because while I remember a bunch of stuff from WoW‘s past, this particular event is murky to me. I don’t remember it being a thing at all. I know they changed all the Gnome and Troll starting era stuff as a part of the wide-ranging Cata revamp. This event did take place then. I definitely participated, and on both sides, as per achievements and collectible geegaws. But while I remember both plague events, the Hakkar Blood events, etc, I have erased all of this particular event from my memory.

So, it seems like even when I was fully invested in playing WoW hardcore at the cutting edge, this was an event which is, apparently, very forgettable. If the OG zombie plague event couldn’t drag me back, I’m definitely not about to roll out of bed for this one.

Q4tQ:

Who’s your favorite Beatle? Even if you don’t like their music.

When I was younger (so much younger than today), it was Paul. I still have a soft spot for him and his musical sensibilities as contrasted with George and especially John. His songs and lyrics, especially the ones with a lot of evocative, picturesque language like Eleanor Rigby, are still among my favorites.

But now that I’m older, I’m starting to come around on Ringo. Even as a drummer, for the most part he was content to be a bit less flashy, but the drummer is still the controlling, binding force behind the curtain. And now, with how generous he is with his time for fans, and his youth music initiatives, I can’t help but stan. His songs slap considerably less tho, sorry not sorry.

How’s House Flipper 2 treating you?

I’m kinda at the point where I’m just waiting on new stuff.

Most of what I do when I play House Flipper and the sequel is using the game as a de facto CAD program. The game itself is fun and all, but that functionality is both indispensable and unmatched. If I want to paint a room in my real house a weird color, or if I want to rearrange furniture, I usually mock it up in House Flipper first so I can do it without breaking a sweat or taping off the trim. The thing is, in OG House Flipper, there are still a bunch of semi-arbitrary limits. I frequently find myself with, say, a yellowish couch instead of a midtone tan one like I have IRL, because there are like, 4 color options and that’s it. Over time though, they’ve added a ton of styles, so I can still approximate what I’m going for. Similarly, though you can change interior rooms, and now you can add windows and stuff, you can’t really change the base exterior or stair configuration, so nothing is going to be a true 1:1 CAD thing anyway.

However, House Flipper 2 allowed me to construct a house from scratch immediately, with terrain tools and a ruled grid, so I have a fully accurately constructed version of my real house within the game (and no you can’t see it, ya creeps). They also added tons of options, with a full color suite and a lot of choices for textures and finishes. However, the one place the game is really lacking at this point is in terms of greenery and foliage, and that’s really kind of what I need at this point in the year. Really hoping they add a gardening DLC sooner rather than late.

It’ll get there, but for now I’m still kinda half squinting and imagining.

Have you played the Stardew update? If so what is your favorite new thing?

I have not yet played it but I can tell you already my favorite thing is definitely drinking mayo. yum, yum.

Which game(s) are you looking forward to in 2024?

Here is a partial list from my Steam wishlist that seem the most fully developed and featured at this point.

  • Harold Halibut
  • Little Kitty, Big City
  • Botany Manor
  • Uncle Chop’s Rocket Shop
  • Another Crab’s Treasure
  • Horticular
  • Janet de Mornay is a Slumlord (and a Witch)
  • Paleophage
  • If SunSets
  • Merchants of Rosewall

Notably, there are a few horror and survival titles too, but horror titles always seem to lack the polish even of mechanics-light cozies. If I had to choose just one, I’m going with Rosewall.
