What beloved game should get cross-progression?

I’ve started playing Stardew Valley again thanks to a new patch with a lot of changes. It’s an interesting combination of relaxing (because there’s no external impetus to do anything immediately) and fast-paced (since a day passes in roughly 14 real-time minutes). Imagine my surprise when I couldn’t find a save file. Oh well, starting a fresh playthrough can’t be too rough, right?

I completely forgot the sheer quantity of content in Stardew Valley. In the first in-game week of playthrough alone, you start your first crops, learn to fish, begin unlocking the community center, open the mines, acquire a pet, and celebrate your first resident’s birthday. Yes, it’s the barest kick off for can be literal in-game years of playing, but it’s easy to forget just how much stuff there is at the onset. But darn, I miss my last playthrough and was surprised to find that cross-progression — sharing save data between various platforms — doesn’t exist, especially since Stardew is available on pretty much every platform, including on mobile.

I can’t imagine developing a game for multiple platforms is easy to begin with, so having a title on all of them is truly incredible. Plus, Stardew Valley is the effort of a lone developer — yes, a title that has an average playerbase of 97 thousand for the last 30 days according to Steamcharts is the effort of one person. Can you imagine trying to also conquer the cloud technologies required for saves across various platforms — consoles, computers, and smartphones?

And yet, I’ve been spoiled by the ease with which I can switch platforms for titles like Diablo 4 and Hades (which leverages your Steam or Epic Games account). Does this mean cross-progression is destined to remain a feature exclusive to development studio work? Or are there ways to enable this functionality for any developer?

Watchers, I don’t have all the answers; I’d love to be able to open this up to anyone, regardless of their game development budget. Now tell me, which title would be your first to get cross-progression functionality?
