When does Diablo 4 Season 5 start and Season 4 end?

Welcome to Diablo 4 Season 4: Loot Reborn, Watchers! Season 4’s patch 1.4.0 delivered fundamental systems changes to loot customization and Helltides, as well as the addition of The Pit endgame challenge and Andariel to the boss ladder. And while none of these changes will go away, the cycle of seasons rolls onward, so we ask ourselves: when does Diablo 4 Season 4 end, and Season 5 start? We know the next season changeover is August 6, 2024.

Now, we knew from the May 2 campfire chat that Season 4 would be a week shorter than normal to balance some of the extra time spent in Season 3; an end date of August 6 takes us to a 12-week cadence within the seasons. We also don’t have any indicators that we’ll get a change in the start dates yet — after the start of Season 2, Global Community Development Director Adam Fletcher responded to player feedback on the X (formerly Twitter) platform with the following:

We noticed this isn’t ideal and plan to adjust in future seasons to later in the week. More like Thursday or Fridays.

Sadly, that shift did not happen with the onset of Season 4. The majority of the D4 community would be delighted with a Friday start date; it makes life a lot easier for those of us with non-gaming day jobs. But it also means we have a shift to look forward to in the future, so don’t lose hope.

We also have to start considering the coming Diablo 4 expansion, Vessel of Hatred. Blizzard stated during the BlizzCon 2023 announcement that Vessel of Hatred would drop in “late 2024” but they’ll have to give us some time between seasons to play through that additional story, right? At least, I hope they will. For right now, we’re proceeding forward with the assumption that one season will roll into another, with Season 5 starting as soon as Season 4 ends and a pause after Season 5 for Vessel of Hatred.

Regardless, we’re just getting started with Season 4 and while there is not an in-depth theme, there are a bunch of changes to dive into. So grab your favorite class, settle into the wild world of itemization changes, and have fun! See you in Sanctuary.
