Where did the Dragonriding Cups go?

Dragonriding was one of the box-features of the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion. Dragonriding races were a launch feature, and the Kalimdor Cup was introduced with patch 10.1.5 last July, followed shortly afterwards by the Eastern Kingdoms Cup in October, the Outland Cup in January, the Northrend Cup in April, and then…

With the launch of the War Within pre-patch event, Dragonriding will be renamed skyriding and a huge number of new and existing mounts will be added to the list of mounts you can use for dynamic flying. When you get to the new questing zones this will be the default flying mode, available immediately, and standard flying will need to be unlocked after you reach level 70.

The Northrend Cup finished on May 13, 2024. Based on the current in game calendar, both on retail and on beta, you will be waiting until January 2025 before you can dust off your Skyriding mounts to race over the other continents again for tokens to buy spiffy transmog outfits and appearances for your mounts. The Cup NPCs also go on sabbatical between cups, so hang onto your saved Riders of Azeroth Badges, you won’t be able to spend them for a while. It’s likely that when they return they will have a new base of operation in Dornogal, the new capital city in Khaz Algar.

While the calendar isn’t final, and we may see an extra event pop up for the new War Within questing zones or even introduce new cups from other expansions not yet touched – for now you will have to wait until next year before this events are available again.

In the current calendar the following events have been posted:

  • Kalimdor Cup; 9th January to 22nd January 2025
  • Eastern Kingdoms Cup; 10th April to 23rd April 2025
  • Outland Cup; 10th July 2025 to an assumed 23rd July.

The in-game calendar cuts out on July 12, 2025 and we can’t see any further at this time.

Many more mounts being flagged as Skyriding compatible, but the most recent testing has indicated that only core Dragonriding mounts are allowed to be used for Dragonriding races. If you could use any mount for Skyriding races, which ones would you choose? Are you going to miss the Skyriding cups given their long absence, or are you too busy to miss them?
