The Queue: Tavern Talk
Tavern Talk comes out tomorrow. A fantasy version of one of my favorite games Coffee Talk (which was an inspiration for it), Tavern Talk looks like a fun opportunity to be an innkeeper, sending adventurers on quests and changing their fates via the drinks you serve. I played the demo when it was first released (still available if you want to give the game a whirl beforehand) and every character I’ve met so far is a delight. Based on what I’ve seen I’m hopeful that the full game will fulfill the promise of its demo and inspirations, and if not well I always have Coffee Talk to play again.
So while I impatiently wait for the game to release let’s answer some questions!
Q4tQ: Since Zelda can create echoes of monsters she has slain to fight by her side, does that make her a necromancer?
I am admittedly not well-versed in the Legend of Zelda lore but isn’t Zelda an immortal creature constantly summoning her familiar Link back from the dead? I would say she’s a Lich.
Does a character’s ilvl in Remix affect what sort of gear they’ll get when they become ‘real’ characters? I’ve been using bronze for xmog and mounts, so my 70s are just lfr geared (346) with no upgraded stuff. Will people who’ve upgraded to higher ilvl get better gear than my characters when they move to retail?
It does not! When ReMists ends the conversion process treats it like a boost, so you’ll have gear appropriate for your level. Bulking up your stats at level 70 (or level 20 if you’re free-to-play) will only help you with the ReMists content.
Q4TQ: Is August too soon for 11.0? We’re accustomed to larger gaps between the final patch and a new expansion.
It feels like it could backfire, with WoW being such a demanding game, even as a casual. MMO burnout is very real. I would hate to see an otherwise stellar expansion get burned just because Blizz didn’t give us enough of a break
It’s a fine line for subscription-based games to balance on: adding enough content to keep players interested without causing burnout. While long-term players are used to end-of-expansion lulls, I’m sure Blizzard has always hated them because of sub losses that extend into the next expansion.
Dragonflight has been a completely different experience than previous expansions, though, and I don’t know if even Blizz knows what the impact is going to be. There has been zero lull, with Plunderstorm and now ReMists serving as alternative gameplay to the main game, even while Season 4 got underway. This may be a good thing — players get to visit Khaz Algar less than a week after ReMists end — but it’s also possible that players may say “I need a break” and don’t come back for The War Within until next year (if at all).
Ultimately I find it hard to criticize a subscription-based game providing regular content for players to experience. I think as long as the quality is there (even if the QA isn’t keeping up yet) I’m inclined to be positive about the lack of lull. But I can definitely see burnout being an unintentional result and it’ll be interesting to see when we get closer to Midnight whether we get the same level of lull-erasing content that we’re experiencing now.
Q4TQ: What is your go-to song for karaoke?
I’ve done karaoke once in my life (although I have been brought up on stage with a bar band to do Jump Around) so I don’t have a go-to; I have been informed in no uncertain terms that the only song I should sing at Karaoke is Axel F. Maybe Tequila.
That said, I honestly think I could pull off Uma Thurman. Maybe it could even help me level my social stats!
what race/class combo would you most and least like as a roommate/houseguest
To me, having a roommate is all about the cleanliness aspect. It’s not that I demand a spotless environment, it’s that I’m already lazy so the preference is to have someone who at the minimum won’t make things worse. Death Knight, then, is definitely going to be the least-liked class as they’re dropping bits of flesh all over the place. As for the race it’s pretty much a tie among Gnomes, Goblins, Dwarves, and Forsaken — the first two due to their penchant to blow things up, and the latter two because they likely leave huge messes (especially if the Forsaken is an alchemist).
I think the most positive roommate to have would be a BElf Paladin. They just seem like they’d be the cleanest to have around.
Q4tQ: if your WoW main was a Hearthstone card, what would they do?
I only really play HSBGs, so I’d say my night elf fire mage engineer was a type-less minion who started every battle by doing half her health in damage to all non-mech minions. The trick would be to get her health high and use her along with an otherwise fully-mech minion group.
This is either a bad idea or a really broken one, possibly both, and this is why I’m not in game design. :P
It’d be Chrth, my Dwarf Hunter. I think as a Legendary his ability would be something like:
Battlecry: do 2 damage and summon a 4/1 Boar with charge.
That seems a little week in the current meta, so I’d like only cost 5 mana.
Let’s say a gronn picks up Magni and tosses him across a lake. Do you think he’ll skip water?
I think it’s certainly feasible from a physics standpoint, although I’d question how much practice a gronn would have for skipping stones. One who enjoyed regularly slinging boulders to see how many skips they could get would probably do it easily, but a neophyte with little training would almost definitely fail even if they tried to skip.
Q4TQ: what’s your opinion on Hero Talents and how to beat the game is that the current Battlegrounds 2nd game is the first time I felt legit disappointment
Moving right along …
Q4tQ: With it being the final year for the Switch, what could have made this most recent Direct better in your eyes?
Three words:
Metroid Dread sequel.
That’s all the space we have for questions today! Be sure to ask plenty of questions for Matt tomorrow, and don’t forget to stay cool (or if you’re in the southern hemisphere, stay warm) in these extreme temperatures we’re having this week. Drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest, and be good to yourself and others!
