Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 8, Trinkets & Travels, adds new “Trinkets” mechanic to the game
The newly-announced Season 8 for Hearthstone Battlegrounds, Trinkets & Travels, will introduce a new mechanic to the mix: Trinkets are new passive power-ups that you buy with gold, and are yours for the rest of the game — much like Quest Rewards. You’ll be offered trinkets to buy twice per game, spend gold on them, and whatever their effects are will be added to your hero permanently.
On turn 6 of every game, you’ll be offered a randomized selection of four Lesser Trinkets (of which there are 56 in total) to buy. Each one will have its own gold cost, which is proportional to how powerful the trinket’s effect is. This gold cost will vary depending on certain aspects, such as which Hero you’re playing and which minion types are in the current game — the same kind of adjustment that already happens with the requirements for Quests, when those are in the game. After you buy your Lesser Trinket, you keep playing the game as normal.
Then, on turn 9, you’ll be offered another randomized selection — this time of four Greater Trinkets (of which there are 60 in total). Certain trinkets exist in both a Lesser and a Greater version, allowing you to either double up on a specific power, to diversify your strategy by picking two different ones that compliment each other, or even to have a second chance of finding a certain power you really want. After you buy your Greater Trinket, you’re all set for the remainder of the game, so make sure to choose wisely.
This season will also introduce a new hero, Marin the Manager, whose hero power allows him to buy one extra Lesser Trinket on turn 5 — one turn before everyone else, too. This is similar to what happened when Quests were introduced to the game, also adding new hero Sire Denathrius, whose hero power allowed him to get one extra Quest per game.
Season 8, Trinkets & Travels, will launch August 20, not only introducing the new Trinkets mechanic and the new Marin hero, but also shaking up the minion roster with 38 minions rotating out, 18 old minions returning, and 27 brand-new minions being added to the pool. Two brand-new Tavern Spells are also coming, and this season will also have its new battle pass (with the appropriate beach trip theme) and will reset ratings for both regular Battlegrounds and Duos. The reveal schedule for this season can be found on the official blog, so keep your eyes peeled for more information over the next days.
