The Queue: I can’t stand the rain

Most of the time when Cory earworms me it’s because of something completely tangential to the song he actually picked.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us questions and we’ll answer just as soon as we find out who got the keys to the Jeep, vrooooooom.

I barely feel ready for Dragonflight to launch.

I’ve been kind of checked out in general this expansion because the later-game gameplay hooks just haven’t been doing it for me of late. I’ve been all about the quirky one-offs for a very long time — I’m here at Blizzard Watch because of pet battles for crying out loud — but even stuff like the whelp daycare and the racing stuff has kinda lost its luster. I’m too old for renown grinds that lead to rep grinds that turn into faction grinds, man.

So I’m pretty ready for The War Within in that sense, because the questing narrative is the core part of WoW that I get excited about. But also, there are so many other things going on, and in so many other games, that we could be in Dragonflight for another 6 months or so and I’d be perfectly content with that.

She’d have archery and marksmanship on lock, and would probably kick all kinds of butt at equestrian, but her distance swimming needs a ton of work.

In WoW you can’t really have a ton of movement in your dance moves, or you’ll aggro the boss or leap off a cliff or whatever, so they usually go with dance moves that work well in one spot. The thing is most classic iconic dance, from Balanchine to Fosse, is designed to take up a ton of real estate on a stage, which makes sense. If you’re at a live ballet performance but the only thing going on is dead center and doesn’t move, that would be both strange and feel very static and boring, but if you’re making a dance for a music video or tiktok, if you move around you need to move the camera, which is a pain.

So for me the best answer is probably adding in the Swan Lake Act 3 coda, which is just a whole bunch of fouettes. And yes, this does seem more Blood Elf appropriate to me than Britney Spears, even though that’s also iconic.

I feel like I would be pretty ideal to be the random schlub they tap to compete in the events as a control case. Oh wow, Katie Ledecky smoked everyone else in the 800 free with 8 mins 11.04 seconds, with the Aussie Titmus coming in second place with 8:12.29, and an over a second differential is a lifetime in swimming. Meanwhile it’ll probably take me 20 minutes or more and I’ll need to take a nap immediately afterwards. And that’s optimistic.

Of course I would definitely end up in traction just getting on any gymnastics apparatus, and there is zero way I’m swimming in the Seine so I’ll just take a DQ on those. And do I really have to run? ew. Never mind.
