Date Everything! is the best game showcased at Gamescom 2024; possibly ever
Date Everything is one of those games where either you are baffled at why or how anyone would think of this concept, let alone follow it through, with dozens of unique characters voiced by a star-studded cast, multiple relationship types, and statuses, and endings, for every single one of those characters, or you already wishlisted the game on Steam after the first part of this sentence.
I am unrepentantly of the second camp, and the toaster in the trailer can get it.
If you need more information, apparently this is something a set of veteran voice actors who have never developed a game before came up with during a recording session, and if you think of it from that perspective, the reasoning becomes clear fairly quickly. You can just imagine Robbie Daymond (whose roles include Tuxedo Mask, Spider-Man, and various stints on Critical Role) hanging out with Ray Chase (Cyclops in X-Men 97, the male Barbarian in Diablo 4) waiting to record, chatting about Boyfriend Dungeon, the game where you use and date different weapons. “The next thing you know, you’ll be able to date everything, haha. WAIT!” And so they, and several other notable voice actors, created a game studio to make that exact game. Characters announced include water, a vacuum cleaner, a hamper who has a toxic relationship with the dirty clothes heap, a cupboard, the refrigerator, a set of hangers, the front door, some shelves, and sunglasses. For each character, there are three endings, or relationship paths — friendship, hatred, or love — and many of the characters can also interact with each other.
Because the developers in charge of this game are voice actors, they also pulled in a ton of voice talent in order to bring all these characters to life. The IMDB page is a who’s-who of video game talent. SungWon Cho, better known as ProZD, was also in Boyfriend Dungeon, among tons of other credits. Sombra’s voice actor, Carolina Ravassa, makes an appearance. Felicia Day of The Guild and Supernatural plays Skylar the Sunglasses. Johnny Yong Bosch is better known to 90s kids as the second Black Ranger on Power Rangers, but has been voice acting since. Laura F*cking Bailey.
They cast Cherami Leigh (Female V in Cyberpunk 2077) as a chair. Chair-ami Leigh. Come on.
That level of pun is worth wishlisting Date Everything all on its own. If you’re not into the whole Steam thing, Date Everything is also going to release on Playstation, XBox, and Switch. Date Everything will be available on February 14, 2025.
