The new hero skins available in the Hearthstone Battlegrounds season 8 season pass, ranked by plausibility

Every new season of Hearthstone Battlegrounds brings us a ton of new hero skins, and the beach-themed season 8 is no exception — but as much as we applaud the imagination, some of these skins are a little bit unbelievable. They’re all lovely art, it’s just that some of these characters wouldn’t be caught dead in these situations.

We’re going to show you all the great new skins for Battlegrounds season 8, and rank them by how likely it would be that they might actually occur.

Surfer Kael’thas

  • Rare skin, available at level 17

Kael’thas? Outdoors? With an 8 pack of abs? Willingly getting his hair wet? And it maintains the same texture without a silk press? A little farfetched all around.

Exodar Guff

  • Epic skin, available at level 6

Setting aside the fact that Guff’s whole deal is nature, as a Tauren he would get rocked instantly by the guards in the Exodar. Unfortunately a childlike sense of wonder is usually trumped by a mech made out of crystal, powered by magic and spite.

Royal Edwin

  • Epic skin, available at level 29

Edwin Van Cleef is a union leader and organizer. Portraying him as a king is slander. This one seems like a leftover from last month’s fairy tale-themed season, so it’s doubly insulting, no matter how much of a hunk of Alterac Swiss he may be.

Moonwell Sylvanas

  • Epic skin, available at level 33

At first this seems like a gorgeous portrait. But considering that Sylvanas lit Teldrassil on fire, showing her as a defender of moonwells is nothing less than inflammatory.

..no, wait. I didn’t mean that pun.

Ski Ragnaros

  • Legendary skin, available at level 36

Speaking of inflammatory, this defies all natural law. Even if Rag is magic fire, snow kinda isn’t. So, maybe not fully implausible, just very short-lived.

Ribbon Tavish

  • Epic skin, available at level 26

I’m not sure I’d class this one as implausible per se. I just really hate the idea of Tavish having a good time. Look at him. He’s having a ball with that weird little crab. Can’t stand it.

Orgrimmar Rakanishu

  • Epic skin, available at level 24

Just really confusing. I see the Horde symbols and the spikes but I can’t really tell what’s going on here. This definitely doesn’t fit the theme, either. A mess all around.

Shark Patchwerk

  • Legendary skin, available at level 39

Most of the scenario makes sense, but Patchwerk is having too much fun. I do appreciate that he’s living the dream and petting a shark with his extra arm.

Bird Watching Drek’thar

  • Legendary skin, available at level 18

This one seems a little insensitive to Drek’thar’s role as a leader and abilities as a shaman, but I’m ok with dunking on him, especially since it isn’t really on-theme.

Vacation Holmes

  • Epic skin, available at level 38

While I wouldn’t doubt that Holmes would need a magnifying glass to find a whole Gorehowl in the middle of his sandcastle, I kinda doubt he’d ever willingly take a vacation.

Fishing Cookie

  • Rare skin, available at level 10

This one isn’t implausible, but it is kinda messed up so I just object on principle.

Castle Mutanus

  • Epic skin, available at level 27

Some people are truly able to use Mutanus to his utmost, consuming and consuming, until a day at the beach becomes a day around the beach. Unfortunately, I am that player only at the rarest of times. It could happen, but unfortunately not for me.

Crystalsong Sindragosa

  • Rare skin, available at Level 4

This one imagines a very possible alternate reality — Sindragosa, imbued with both necrotic magic, and the arcane crystal magic of Crystalsong Forest, so close to where she fell. It’s tragic, but also a lovely hero skin. Unfortunately, also off-theme.

Desert Ozumat

  • Epic skin, available at level 32

~*Just Seamonster Things*~

Outdoorsy Ini

  • Epic skin, available at level 16

I like this outfit for Ini, and while I’m sure she would have a blast in the short-term, I’m really concerned about longer-term. That’s a lot of sand near a well-oiled machine. Just playing with fire.

Sunburned C’thun

  • Legendary skin, available at level 30

As a very, very pale lady, I have slathered on SPF 70 in both mineral and chemical formulations, sat under an umbrella with a big hat on, and still got sunburned. Poor C’thun, a great big unprotected eyeball who is no stranger to dealing with sand, was doomed from the beginning. Let’s hope he finds some aloe.

Beach Chenvaala

  • Rare skin, available at level 7

Since it’s magic and made of water, it does stand to reason that it would be able to survive pretty well on a beach, even if it is sunny out.

Moody Jandice

  • Rare skin, available at level 15

Looks like someone’s got a case of the Mondays. :(

Future Vacation Nozdormu

  • Legendary skin, available at level 14

If I were a Bronze dragon, I would absolutely manipulate time to drink a cocktail out of a coconut half on the beach for as long as I possibly could. Not sure why that’s even a question. Viva les vacances!

Dalaran Wagtoggle

  • Epic skin, available at level 21

Yas Queen. Even though this seems like another carryover from last season, this is 10/10, no notes, perfection. Slay.

Snorkler Elise

  • Rare skin, available at level 12

Elise, the academic adventurer, would absolutely jump in the ocean in order to study the fish, and have a great time doing it. This skin is a great showcase of both the character and the monthly theme, and the only down side is that it isn’t Legendary, so there’s no voice acting to go with it.
