When is the Overwatch 2 Anniversary event for 2024?

The Overwatch 2 Anniversary event is going to start September 24, 2024 and last through mid-October. The collaboration with World of Warcraft they’re called the “anniversary celebration” starts September 17 — despite the fact that this is the anniversary of neither of these two games.

The World of Warcraft x Overwatch 2 festivities kick off September 17 and end September 30, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft. This event is mostly limited to cosmetics, it would seem. Players can collect some of the less flashy rewards — sprays, icons, name cards — for free. If you want the skins, which cast Overwatch heroes as iconic World of Warcraft heroes, you’ll have to purchase them. The Overwatch 2 team has a bundle for all four celebration skins and a smattering of the other stuff for 50, yes, five-oh fifty, whole American dollars.

Overlapping this is the start of the Overwatch 2 anniversary event, which begins September 24, and offers three weeks of blast-from-the-past modes to celebrate.

  • Week 1Beast Hunt and Community Crafted modes.
  • Week 2April Fools 2024 and Cosmic Crisis.
  • Week 3Mirrorwatch and Prop Hunt.

It’s unknown whether we’ll get even more Anniversary cosmetics when the event starts, but it seems fairly likely. But if you really want some cosmetics right now, you might want to check your Xbox Game Pass. Overwatch 2 is now available via Game Pass as of September 17. If you link your accounts and have Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass for Console or PC Game Pass, you’ll get 6 hero skins and 30 Mythic prisms as a part of your subscription. Going forward, those subscribers also get an XP boost that stacks with the other XP boosts as long as their Game Pass sub is active.

In Overwatch the first, Anniversary was the peak time to snatch up any cosmetics you’d missed from previous events. In Overwatch the second, this has actually been one of the least notable events in terms of brand new rewards, though this new collaboration definitely has some legs. We’ll see if there are any new, non-WoW cosmetics to be had as the event gets underway!
