Race to World First Day 6: Ky’veza falls and the Silken Court rises

And Nexus-Princess Ky’veza is down: after multiple sub-1% pulls yesterday, Team Liquid killed Ky’veza after 304 pulls. That doesn’t quite put this fight into Halondrus territory, but it’s pretty close. It should be noted, of course, that Halondrus was a much longer fight, and Raider.io did the math to tell us Liquid spent 18 hours and 36 minutes in combat with Halondrus, and only 15 hours and 25 minutes in combat with Ky’veza.

Echo came in with the world second kill, followed by Method — but the rest of the race is still working on Ky’veza. Hougou Hero remains in fourth, and has gotten Ky’veza down to 3.06%. The team could join the rest on Silken Court any pull now.

While the last two bosses have been tough, Silken Court looks to be a huge challenge. Even on normal it’s a fight that requires a lot of coordination, as you have to pull spider webs across a charge to stun Anub’arash, and interrupt a raid-wiping spellcast by getting dispelled near Skeinspinner Takazj… with lots of dodging and damage in between.

But on Mythic, the raid is hit with a debuff marking them one color or another, and then the appropriately marked players have to soak appropriately marked motes spawning around the room. Unsoaked motes or motes hit by a player of the wrong color explode for raid damage, so they can’t be ignored, but soaking them puts a dot to the player, and each player can only have two dots, maximum. If a player dies, it’s game over, because death doesn’t remove the dot. It’s a no battle rez fight, and as players start falling the team is left with fewer players to manage the motes. That means any deaths tend to send the raid towards a wipe. After watching guilds one-tank Ky’veza, relying on a chain of battle rez effects to survive, Silken Court is an interesting change.

After the Ky’veza kill, Liquid did Silken Court pulls off stream and then headed to bed. Echo and Method, however, jumped right in and have been progressing throughout the raid day. That puts Echo in the lead right now, with Silken Court at 56%, and since Liquid jumped back in this morning they’ve hit 63%, so it’s still a close fight. Method is lagging behind at 70%, but the team hasn’t done as many pulls as the rest.

With only two bosses left, the race is on as guilds tackle this difficult duo. Here’s where things stand in the Race to World First for Nerub’ar Palace.
