How to get the new versions of the Tier 2 armor sets in Season of Discovery Phase 5

WoW’s iconic Tier 2 sets returned in Season of Discovery Phase 5  as earnable endgame rewards with some twists that separate them from their original World of Warcraft and WoW Classic counterparts. The main appeal of the Tier sets are the bonuses players can get to boost their character’s abilities, with each piece granting more benefits. These set specialization boosts still exist in Season of Discovery but they’ve been adjusted and expanded to account for the new specializations for each class — plus the way you get the set pieces has changed.

Originally, specific Tier 2 pieces would drop from specific bosses, and in order to get them all players would essentially need to clear all of Blackwing Lair, Ragnaros in Molten Core, and Onyxia in Onyxia’s Lair. In Season of Discovery Phase 5, players will get Tier 2 set tokens instead of the actual armor, and each token slot drops from specific Blackwing Lair or Crystal Vale boss:

  • Gloves — Razorgore the Untamed
  • Legs — Vaelastrasz the Corrupted and Firemaw
    • Vaelastrasz also has a small chance to drop a token for any other armor slot
  • Boots — Broodlord Lashlayer
  • Head — Ebonroc and Flamegor
    • Ebonroc also has a small chance to drop a token for any other armor slot
  • Shoulders — Chromaggus
  • Chest — Nefarian
    • Nefarian also has a small chance to drop a token for any other armor slot
  • Belt — Prince Thunderaan (Crystal Vale)
  • Bracers — Sold by Pix Xizzix in Booty Bay for 125 Tarnished Undermine Real

There are actually two separate versions of the Tier 2 sets you can get at this point — Core-Forged and Draconic. The two sets are identical in appearance, item level, and stat boosts but differ in the set bonuses they provide.

The Draconic Tier 2 set is meant to be the updated Tier 2 set bonus from Blackwing Lair and is acquired by taking the Tier 2 tokens to Victor Nefriendius, a new vendor inside Blackwing Lair, and exchanging the token for the corresponding piece. The Core-Forged Tier 2 sets give a set bonus identical to the Tier 1 set bonus from Molten Core and to get it you’ll need to take the Draconic set piece you received from Victor to the Hydraxian vendor just inside the entrance of Molten core and exchange it for the corresponding Core-Forged piece.
