Your weekly activity checklist for The War Within Season 1

There’s so much to do with each weekly reset in The War Within that it can get a bit confusing, especially for returning or casual players. The good news is that you’re unlikely to run out of things to do in any given week. The bad news is that you might feel so overwhelmed that you find yourself wandering through Dornogal in a daze (and that’s a good way to get hurt).

A well-organized checklist to the rescue! Let’s take a look at what quests and rewards are available each week. I’ve organized them a bit so you can focus on whatever end game aspect you’re working on currently. The most important thing to remember is that World of Warcraft is a video game, and you should therefore enjoy playing it — take this list and customize it. Prioritize your favorite content and drop what you dread doing each week.

Get started on the week by collecting easy gear

Check the Great Vault. The first thing most players will do once the servers are back up on reset day is head to the Great Vault within the bank in Dornogal. You can choose one bonus piece of gear from the vault each week. The vault is filled with higher-quality gear and more options as you complete more of the vault objectives: defeating raid bosses (any difficulty), completing dungeons (Heroic, Mythic, or Timewalking), and completing Delves and world events. The addition of World Events to the Vault this expansion makes it easier than ever to get gear from the Vault. Check your Vault progress throughout each week to make sure you’ll get a good chance at a gear upgrade each Tuesday.

Kill the World Boss. One of the easiest boxes to check off on the weekly list is Khaz Algar’s world boss. These rotate between Kordac the Dormant Protector on the Isle of Dorn, the Aggregation of Horrors in the Ringing Deeps, Shurrai, Atrocity of the Undersea in Hallowfall, and Orta the Broken Mountain in Azj-Kahet. You can use the Group Finder to join up with a party pretty quickly, especially if it’s early in the week. The world bosses drop ilevel 603 Champion gear if you’re lucky enough to get loot.

Pick up weekly quests in Dornogal. You can pick up a few of the quests that reward these weekly caches in the center part of Dornogal. Brann has a Delves weekly quest in his headquarters, and there’s rotating weekly quests at the command table outside of the inn — sometimes Faerin lets you choose your adventure, other weeks High Speaker Brinthe and Dagran Thaurissan need you to collect Titan Disc Fragments.

Weekly activities in The War Within

Weekly quests are one of the best ways to bump up your renown with the factions of Khaz Algar, which will unlock gear and other rewards. Their weekly events also unlock caches, and you want to be sure to collect a few caches every week. These treasure chests are weekly rewards from things like world events and weekly quests, and they work a bit differently in The War Within. The first two caches you open on a character each week will give a piece of ilevel 584 Veteran gear, and the first four will drop a Restored Coffer Key. We’ll talk about the events individually below.

Weekly quests typically give a one-time Warband award in the form of a commendation, so don’t plan on running your favorite world event with ten alts to zoom to renown 25. Each of the four factions that we’ve met so far has a weekly world event, plus a wax-related quest for our new Kobold friends.

The Theater Troupe event starts at the top of each hour, just outside of Dornogal. A few minutes preparing the stage and amphitheater, a few minutes acting out a scene from the Isle of Dorn’s history, and its loot time. For the first completion each week you’ll receive a weekly cache (Theater Troupe’s Trove), 250 Resonance Crystals, and 1,000 Reputation with the Council of Dornogal.

Awakening the Machine is a solo world event that can be started in Gundargaz within The Ringing Deeps. Be sure to pick up the weekly quest, Gearing Up for Trouble, from Gnawbles on the south side of Gundargaz before starting the event by speaking with Speaker Kuldas in the center of town. Fight off twenty waves of hostile machinery and you’ll be rewarded with four treasure chests which can contain a mech suit mount in addition to all the usual weekly goodies (Resonance Crystals, crests, and rep with The Assembly of the Deeps). Turning in the quest nets you an Awakened Mechanical Cache.

Collect wax for Kobolds. The big rep boost with Assembly of the Deeps comes from gathering wax for our new kobold buddies. Gnawbles also starts Rollin’ Down in the Deeps, which requires players to dig up Disturbed Earth across Khaz Algar. Some dirt piles immediately spawn a Waxy Lump, but mostly you’ll need to fend off an enemy or complete a small event before looting your Odd Glob of Wax. Be sure to wash your hands after you turn in your globs for 1,000 reputation with the Assembly of the Deeps, 200 Resonance Crystals, and an Everyday Cache (confusingly, this one isn’t included among caches that drop Veteran gear and Restored Coffer Keys).

Spreading the Light with the Arathi. Head to Hallowfall to assist the plucky survivors of the Arathi Expedition in the Spreading the Light world event. A Radiant Cache is your reward for re-lighting four Lesser Keyflames using Radiant Remnants that drop from mobs all around the area. The daily quests that appear at the keyflames are where you’ll be able to grab reputation with the Hallowfall Arathi as well as Resonance Crystals and a chance at a kitty mount.

Pledge your aid to the Severed Threads. Gaining renown with our new spidery allies in Azj-Kahet is a bit complicated. Start by heading to the Weaver’s Lair each week and declaring your allegiance to one of the leaders of the Severed Threads: The General, The Vizier, or The Weaver. Completing enough activities across Azj-Kahet such as world quests and slaying rare mobs (and don’t forget the rumors) will reward you with 1,500 reputation with your chosen leader, 250 Kej, and a war chest that counts as a weekly cache.

Complete the weekly dungeon. You can get a huge boost to one faction of your choosing each reset period by completing the weekly dungeon quest. Biergoth is an Earthen who leans against a brazier just outside the main inn in Dornogal. In addition to looking really cool, she awards a commendation for 1,500 reputation with any of the six factions we’ve befriended so far (remember that The Severed Threads is actually split into three leaders with their own rep). You can complete the week’s dungeon on any difficulty, even follower.

Don’t forget these less obvious quests

Check for weekly profession quests. Tucked away in a building on the eastern side of the Dornogal Forgegrounds is where you’ll find the weekly crafting order quest (if you have a crafting profession). Talk to Kala Clayhoof, fill some orders, and return to her to receive two profession knowledge points. Gathering professions have quests located at each trainer, although the requirements for some are rather steep this expansion — I had an easier time parting with sixteen Serevite Ore than two Null Stones.

Complete Special Assignments. Special Assignments aren’t on the weekly lockout, but I’m including them because they do offer a Seasoned Adventurer’s Cache. If world quests are your bread and butter, keep an eye out for these golden icons on the world map. Completing three world quests in a zone will unlock a tougher world quest that typically involves going toe-to-toe with elite enemies.

Try out the weekly PVP quests. Finally, don’t count out some of the PVP weekly quests. While most require a decent level of dedication to PVP content, the Sparks of War weekly quest can be easily accomplished in PVE gear while only being ganked two or three times. You can start the quest in the far southeast part of Dornogal with Ruffious. Toggle War Mode on in the bottom-right corner of your Talents pane while you’re in Dornogal and head to this week’s zone.

I’ll admit that the idea of PVP world objectives led me to ignore this quest for most of Dragonflight, but it’s actually relatively painless. You get ten sparks for a world quest (even ones like Skyrider Racing), but I found that in The War Within you can combine this effort with wax gathering. Find a nice, quiet spot and dig up those Disturbed Earth for five sparks apiece, and before you know it you’ll be turning in the quest for Bloody Tokens, honor, conquest, and 250 rep with the Council of Dornogal.
