Blizzard buffs the weekly amount of Bronze Celebration Tokens you can get

Balloons shaped like "20"

Praise Yogg — the community complaints have been heard, and Blizzard is increasing the amount of Bronze Celebration Tokens players can earn from weekly activities, starting effectively today. As you probably know, these tokens are used to purchase the rewards from World of Warcraft’s 20th Anniversary event that is currently going on — including the much-coveted revamped Tier 2 armor sets. However, the developers were very conservative — some would even say stingy — with handing out these tokens in the first week of the event.

It seems like the Anniversary event was designed in a way that prevents players from front-loading their ability to earn the tokens: not only were they spread across a variety of different activities, each activity rewarded a very small number of tokens. While the goal of the developers with this decision might have been to compel players to try each activity and enjoy everything that the event has to offer, the reality is that most players have their own preferences, and many felt like they were being “forced” to dabble into content they have no interest in — such as PVP, or LFR — in order to earn enough tokens.

The new tier 2 sets cost a whopping 60 tokens at first, but receive a discount after you purchase one, and another after you purchase two. In addition to that, the event was designed so that players would only earn those small amounts of tokens at first, but receive a boost later, in the form of repeatable sources of tokens that only open up after you earn 100 tokens for the first time. Needless to say, combined, those two design decisions made players feel like they were not earning enough tokens to make the activities worth their time — which made them even less disposed to tackle content they wanted no part in in order to earn more tokens.

Thankfully, Blizzard was quick to react to the dissatisfied voices in the community. A change is coming with today’s weekly reset, in which most sources of tokens are being greatly buffed:

  • Queen Ansurek – 15 Bronze Celebration Tokens
  • Conquest/Rated PvP Weekly – 15 Bronze Celebration Tokens

This is a substantial boost that should allow players to earn those 60 tokens for their first set — and eventually their 100 tokens for the ability to earn even more tokens — considerably faster. It’s a bit of a shame that this isn’t the version of the event that we got right from the start, but at least the token drought seems to have only lasted for the first week.
