Increase your profession knowledge skill points with these vendor items in The War Within
Professions in The War Within have built on the lessons of Dragonflight by offering NPC crafting orders and replacing the janky Inspiration with Concentration. Knowledge skill points remain desirable but sometimes hard to acquire, but unlike in Dragonflight where we had to wait for new factions in later tiers to provide some boosts players are able to get 50 points (for crafting professions) or 65 points (for gathering professions) from vendors in-game right now, although the amount of currency required means you’re likely not going to be able to grab them all at once.
There are three main sources of these boosts: the Artisan’s Consortium, Faction Quartermasters, and from trainers in the City of Threads in Azj-Kahet. Of these three the Artisan’s Consortium are the easiest to acquire on characters — albeit the most expensive — although alts may be able to take advantage of the Kej currency already acquired on maximum level toons to purchase what they need in Azj-Kahet.
Artisan’s Consortium
The Crafter’s Enclave is located on the eastern segment of Dornogal across from the Inn and flightmaster; they’re easily found courtesy of the little hammer on your mini-map. Inside the Artisan’s Consortium Quartermaster Lyrendal has three items for each profession that will boost knowledge skill points by 10 (crafting) or 15 (gathering) apiece. These cost Artisan’s Acuity which appear to be harder to acquire in TWW than they were in Dragonflight, although Roldira in the Enclave has a short quest chain that will reward three hundred and fifty to give all characters a quick start on acquisition.
- Faded, costs 200 Artisan’s Acuity and provide +10/+15 knowledge skill points
- Exceptional, costs 300 Artisan’s Acuity and provide +10/+15 knowledge skill points
- Pristine, costs 400 Artisan’s Acuity and provide +10/+15 knowledge skill points
You’ll note that even though the cost increases, the rewarded points do not so there’s no reason to buy Pristine before Faded.
Faction Quartermasters
Each of the faction quartermasters except for the Severed Threads sells a +10 knowledge skill profession item. These items cost only 50 Artisan’s Acuity apiece however they require you to reach a certain Renown level with the respective quartermaster before you can purchase the item. Fortunately Renown is accountwide so once it’s reached all of your characters can take advantage of it. If you’re unfamiliar with the Quartermaster locations check out this article for all the information.
- Council of Dornogal: At Renown 12 you’ll be able to purchase profession knowledge for Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, and Tailoring from Auditor Balwurz
- Assembly of the Deeps: At Renown 12 you’ll be able to purchase profession knowledge for Engineering, Mining, and Inscription from Waxmonger Squick
- Hallowfall: At Renown 14 you’ll be able to purchase profession knowledge for Herbalism, Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking, and Skinning from Aurelia Steelstrike
City of Threads
In the Umbral Bazaar section of the City of Threads in Azj-Kahet there are profession trainers and vendors who sell +10 knowledge point items. Unlike the items from Faction Quartermasters there’s no Renown requirement to acquire them. They cost 565 Kej instead of Artisan’s Acuity and as this zone currency is more plentiful it may be easier to gain than the crafting currency. In addition Kej is transferable among characters in your Warband so fresh alts can take advantage of that to gain the items relatively quickly. Even though the vendors are neutral, players need to be wary of guards that can toss them out of the city if they attract their attention. These are the vendors you should be looking for (check the map above for approximate locations):
- Alchemy: Siesbarg
- Blacksmithing and Mining: Rakka
- Enchanting: Iliani
- Engineering: Rukku
- Herbalism: Lloyt
- Inscription: Nuel Prill
- Jewelcrafting: Alvus Valavulu
- Leatherworking and Skinning: Kama
- Tailoring: Saaria
Note that it has been reported that you can only acquire a maximum of two knowledge skill point items from the Nerubians, so if you change professions you won’t be able to purchase a third book to increase the skill points of your new profession. It’s unknown if this is intended or if it’s a bug.
