Overwatch 2 Classic launches tomorrow, taking us back to the game’s glory days (for a limited time)
Overwatch 2’s next limited time event is Overwatch 1, with a new event called Overwatch 2 Classic which lets you play a game mode that mimics the original release game. That means 6v6 gameplay with original maps, original heroes, original skins, and all of the original quirks of the game at launch will all be there for you to enjoy — for a limited time.
Overwatch 2 Classic will be available for play from November 12 to December 2.
Classic game modes like this have become a popular way to revisit a long-running game’s past — and it’s worked very well for WoW Classic — but you can never really turn back the clock and recapture what it felt like to be there at launch day. Still, hopefully this game mode captures some of the early joy of the days when Overwatch was bright and new.
The team is also testing a new 6v6 mode, which is not related to this Classic mode, so we’ll still see more 6v6 matches in the future — just without all of the other trappings that Overwatch 2 Classic promises. For fans of these larger team comps, there’s potentially a lot of gameplay coming, but the state of 6v6 isn’t finalized, and Overwatch 2 Classic is only available through December, with no promise it will ever return.
So, if you want to see more of this “Classic” content, you’d better get in and play — no doubt the devs will be watching to see how interested we really are in reviving old-school Overwatch. The game mode launches on Tuesday, November 12 and runs until December 2.
