World of Warcraft 2025 roadmap details the course of The War Within and foretells the arrival of Midnight

As they have done for the past few years, the World of Warcraft development team has released a roadmap for the upcoming year. The planned release cadence of The War Within content remains ambitious and as a result may bring us to the next chapter of the Worldsoul Saga earlier than expected. Let’s take a look at what 2025 has in store!

The latest roadmap actually begins in 2024 with the December arrival of patch 11.0.7. The new zone of Siren Isle will be available to players, and we’ll be seeing the return of the Turbulent Timeways (for those who didn’t get enough of all the Timewalking during the 20th Anniversary event) and Plunderstorm. The latter event only has one change but it’s a big one — instead of a Renown track there will be a “store” to purchase the items you want from currency earned during the event.

The War Within Season 2 takes us to the Undermine, while Season 3’s destination is TBD

Patch 11.1 is the first major patch and will kick off The War Within Season 2. In it, we’ll be journeying to the Undermine to fight for Goblin Cartels and maybe thankfully finally deal with Gallywix in the Liberation of Undermine raid. “Undermined” (as it’s titled) is the first 2025 listing on the roadmap, arriving in late winter.

Patch 11.1.5 and patch 11.1.7. The two minor patches of Season 2 are currently on the roadmap for Spring 2025. Patch 11.1.5 has new content known as “Nightfall” alongside Horrific Visions “revisited.” Last seen in Battle for Azeroth, their return likely means that we’re dealing with Xal’atath’s machinations head-on. Patch 11.1.7 will arrive later in the spring, but that ends the detailed section of the roadmap — so all that we know is that there will be content and the return of the Turbulent Timeways yet again (or perhaps this is the first time?).

Patch 11.2. Summer 2025 brings patch 11.2 and The War Within Season 3. Like previous major patches we’ll be getting a new raid and new open world challenges. Patch 11.2 also brings a new Dungeon (two new post-launch dungeons!) but oddly there’s no mention of a new zone. Was it left off for space reasons, or is this a hint that we’re going to return to an old location for this patch? Update: a new version of the roadmap has been released that includes “New Zone” in the list of features for patch 11.2.

The only other content due in the Summer is the “expansion reveal” of Midnight, possibly during Gamescom or maybe even at Summer Game Fest.

Patch 11.2.5 and patch 11.2.7. Autumn 2025 is the scheduled season for Season 3’s minor patches. Descriptions of patch 11.2.5 and patch 11.2.7 are both necessarily vague at this point, but should have the standard content we’ve come to expect from the .5 and .7 patches.

What’s next? Winter 2025 is currently devoid of any content except for a banner that’s been updated to definitely represent player housing. That suggests the pre-patch for Midnight is planned to arrive then. There’s also the color change of the season bar from yellow to a fel green tint — the community already believes it means we’ll be getting WoW Remixed: Legion before the end of 2025.

The Summer reveal of Midnight alongside the 2025 release of patch 11.2.7 presages an early 2026 release for the next expansion in the Worldsoul Saga however there’s always room for a curveball so we’ll need to wait some time before we can see what 2026 entails. At least for now we have a good sense of 2025 even if we don’t know all the details yet.
