When is the World of Warcraft: Midnight release date? WoW’s 2025 roadmap provides some clues
The next expansion in the World of Warcraft Worldsoul Saga is Midnight and with 2025’s roadmap published we can attempt to predict when it might arrive. While previously we could expect a new expansion every two years, the increased regular cadence of new content is making it possible for the development team to complete expansions quicker than ever. The War Within arrived 21 months after Dragonflight released and it looks like Midnight may also arrive three months earlier than its predecessor. For now we’re predicting that Midnight will release on February 24, 2026.
The key to this prediction is the aforementioned 2025 roadmap. Patch 11.2.7 is scheduled for Autumn 2025 and if it’s the final patch of The War Within like patch 10.2.7 was the final patch for Dragonflight then it necessarily follows that Midnight will arrive that winter. Of course there are no guarantees in life, but until told otherwise we’re going to forecast based on that assumption. 18 months feels like the minimum amount of time needed to develop an expansion, so while January looks feasible based on the roadmap it feels unlikely. Of course the release isn’t actually specified for winter so a March or even April release isn’t out of the question but that would entail a larger than expected content drought.
The “reveal” of Midnight is scheduled for summer 2025, which likely means a presentation or two reminiscent of the “What’s Next” panels previously shown at BlizzCon. It’s too soon to know if Blizzard will schedule the reveal as part of Summer Game Fest or Gamescom but it wouldn’t be surprising if they did. A release date announcement at that time seems highly unlikely but the possibility exists — although the Video Game Awards in December is probably a better bet for that reveal.
The expansion reveal is likely also when Midnight will become available for preorder. Three tiers of purchase options has become the norm for WoW so it should be anticipated there will be a Base, Heroic, and Epic Edition to choose among. Whether that last option will once again contain the controversial early access” remains to be seen.
