The Queue: I have found the solution to all of our problems
And so what if that solution is a frog-thing that has maybe eaten a few tourists? That’s hardly its fault, and perhaps its skills could be put to good use elsewhere. It’s a great plan.
So let’s go, Queue.
Q4Liz: tell us more about your new “tape a giant frog to the ceiling” strategy to beat Queen Ansurek.
It is exceedingly simple. My guild has been working on heroic Ansurek. It’s going fine, but I think we could make quicker work of it with this crucial innovation.
Replicating this strategy will require us to rehome one of the frogs from the Dragon Isles; there are a number of potential recruits in Ohn’ahran Plains. Then it is a matter of sneaking this frog into Nerub-ar Palace and giving him a proper vantage point to leap in and squish Ansurek. Possibly this would involve taping a frog to the ceiling and having it leap down on command. But perhaps it could be simpler than that, and we could just put the frog in a beautifully wrapped box that we present to the queen, and when opened it leaps into action! I am sure there are many ways in which this might be accomplished.
I think it’s an extremely promising strategy, but when I presented it to my raid leader, the response was: “How do you expect me to tape a giant frog to the ceiling?”
A true rejection of my creative problem-solving skills.
Q4tQ: what do you think about the upcoming changes in Diablo IV’s next season? While I don’t expect any story content to amount to much after the previous seasons, the new witchcraft powers sound like they’ll be fun to play with. And I love some of the quality of life changes – just being able to save ability and equipment loadouts in an armory-type thing will be great for some players.
I have been vastly disappointed in story content; initial promises about the game’s seasons suggested big chunks of story with each, but they’ve been minor at best — and the past couple of seasons haven’t had any kind of theme at all, simply being a package of gameplay changes.
They’ve all been good gameplay changes, but changes to the base game don’t make it very exciting to roll a new character from scratch again. This is a system Diablo 3 really perfected, giving interesting gameplay tweaks every season so it’s an interesting, new way to play. Diablo 4’s seasonal efforts have been a little mixed, to put it kindly.
My exceptions were at zero for the next season announcement, and fortunately Blizzard has managed to surpass them. Hooray!
The next season doesn’t promise story, but does promise a heap of special abilities to change up the way we play for the season. It’s a lot like the vampire season, except with witches, and witchy powers like summoning frogs (see above) and piranhas (in tornado form). I am very excited to run around Sanctuary with a piranha tornado surrounding me. There are also weird new gems to play with, and all in all I think it will result in interesting new ways to play. That’s the kind of thing I want out of a season (though I’d also like that and some story, I’m not going to get my hopes up).
And, of course, the armory and easy loadout swapping is something players have asked for since day 1. The game continues to bring it with quality of life improvements. We’re playing the best version of this game, and it keeps getting better.
So things are looking great for Diablo! (But I still wish we had just a bit more story.)
QftQ: is there a reason why ALL the tabards arent connected at the waist?
Sometimes I want to wear a tabard without a belt.
I’m with you on this, but tabards you can wear without belts are a relatively modern innovation — we first started seeing them in Shadowlands tabards, and the trend has carried over from there, but it hasn’t gone backwards to upscale old designs (and make them meet up so they don’t look weird without a belt). So, if you want a tabard like that, find yourself a modern tabard.
If you had to open a restaurant, and all the pesky details like finding a talented chef who could make the food you desired was taken care of, what would it be?
Bonus question: jetpack vs hovercraft?
It would be totally dedicated to various types of grilled cheese sandwiches. Different breads, different cheeses, different toppings (but always with a plain option for traditionalists). Bread and cheese, what else do you need?
Is there such a thing as too much time
That really depends on the context. Too much time playing video games? Probably not. Too much time doomscrolling? 100%.
What I’m saying is be careful out there. Have fun where there’s fun to be had, but maybe stop doomscrolling before you start.
Okay everyone, that’s all for today. I hope you’re doing well and have a great weekend! Please do leave some questions for Cory next week — perhaps see if he has any good new strategies for Nerub-ar Palace?
