What game announcement or preview from the Game Awards are you most excited about?

The 2024 edition of the Game Awards are over and while some may be interested in debating whether Astro Bot deserved to be Game of the Year I’m already focused on all the future titles. While there are some that are possibly years away — I got the sense that for the 10th Anniversary they wanted big announcements regardless of completion — it’s never too early to get the hype train rolling.

At the top of a lot people’s list is going to be Witcher 4. While we’ve known it was in development since 2022 this is the first look we’ve gotten and it was certainly dramatic. All of the standard Witcher accoutrements were on display in the cinematic, with one huge difference: Ciri will be the protagonist of this installment. While it seems likely that the game’s overall feel won’t change despite the shift in focus, placing Ciri front and center should redirect some of the narrative emphasis. It’ll also be interesting to see how the gameplay has evolved since the previous installment as well, although unfortunately no gameplay was shown off.

Mythriak in Discord dubbed this the “Year of Necromancy” and he pretty much nailed it; there are a sizable number of resurrected franchises returning. Virtua Fighter, Ninja Gaiden, Turok, Double Dragon, Onimusha, and Okami are all getting new installments in the near future, but the one I’m probably most excited about is a Metroidvania starring … Pac-Man? Called Shadow Labyrinth, it looks pretty slick (and I love me some Metroidvanias) — hopefully it’s more than a gimmick.

Another game that looked pretty intriguing is Split Fiction from the creators of It Takes TwoSplit Fiction is a co-op puzzle platformer and it looks like a fun time… I just need to find a friend to play it with.

What about you? Are you an Elden Ring fan now looking forward to Nightreign? Did Aaron Paul and Laura Bailey’s introduction of Dispatch convince you to wishlist it? Any other game catch your eye? Let us know on social media or in the comments below!
