How are you going with your New Year’s Resolutions?

We’re almost at the end of January 2025 — no, it really isn’t the 1,432nd of March 2020… sorry Liz P. Many of us finish the year out looking back at what went well and what didn’t, and resolve to make changes in the new year. The first few weeks you try to embed the new behaviours, but the end of January is usually where we finally acknowledge that the wheels fell off somewhere along the way.

The main resolutions I made were to play at least one new game per month, to take better care of myself physically, and ensure I’m getting enough sleep, some gentle exercise and to looking some stress management strategies.

Well I’ve succeeded in that partially, I have tried a few new games, I snuck in Duck Detective: the Secret Salami on NYE, and then Thank Goodness You’re Here! a few days later. I have since also picked up No Man’s Sky — which may have been a mistake, because I really didn’t need another “forever game” in my list. I have picked out my February game, but will need to find time to play it as it has an expected playtime of 10-12 hours for the story, and I have time limited events in World of Warcraft, Diablo 4, and No Man’s Sky to get through this month.

Which is to say, the sleep better thing hasn’t been going too well… I just ordered myself a podoromo timer to hopefully help me be better at sticking to my time management, as the phone alarms don’t seem to be cutting it. I haven’t made the time to follow up on the stress management side of things yet, as I have been running down other health issues (chronic health problems are so time consuming and exhausting, especially during flare ups). That and everything else that has been going on… *flails wildly at everything*…

Does anyone have suggestions for short-ish indie games I can try out this year — I prefer puzzle or mystery games for this project. I am terrible at platforms. The target is about 3-6 hours play time. If you have any suggestions, comment under this post or tag me on the discord.

How are you going with your resolutions? Did you make any this year? Have you managed to stick to them or have you just let them slide? Has actively thinking about them encouraged you to have another go at them — you don’t have to wait for the new year to make positive changes in your life!
