How to find (and fight) The Gobfather World Boss in The War Within season 2

Season 2 of The War Within starts the week of March 4 and with a new season there’s a new World Boss: the Gobfather. As in recent expansions the second raid tier only contains one World Boss encounter, so there won’t be a weekly rotation of new bosses (as we saw in Season 1). Fortunately there remain no mechanic drops similar to the older expansion’s Legendary Memories so players won’t have to worry about missing out on something important (besides the chance of loot) if they skip fighting the boss every week. As usual the World Bosses drop items that are ilevel-equivalent to the Normal difficulty of the concurrent raid, although with the staggered ilevels in the Liberation of Undermine it should be noted that World Boss drops are ilevel 642, or equivalent to the fifth and sixth bosses of the raid. They start at Champion 3/8 and can be upgraded from there.
But how do you defeat the Gobfather? Here’s what you need to know about the fight.
The Gobfather fight is built to blast, with several exploding mechanics that will knock back players. As always players will want to avoid any targets on the ground, as rockets do substantial damage. There is also a frontal cone (don’t stand in it!) and a ground slam with a knockback (and thus an interrupt) — the latter is unavoidable, so just be ready for it. The Gobfather will also spread wandering Primed Boomcrawlers that will blow up when you step on it. They’re armor-plated and have a 99% damage reduction so don’t attempt to DPS them down — just avoid them and focus the boss.
Where to find The Gobfather World Boss
The Gobfather can be found and fought in the Demolition Dome in the northern part of the Undermine zone. While the Dome is the location of a new PVP arena called the Cage of Carnage it’s also accessible in the open world, so getting there will be quick and painless (especially with the new D.R.I.V.E. system).
Loot from The Gobfather
The gear that the Gobfather drops matches the normal Liberation of Undermine appearances, so those looking to farm transmog as well as gear upgrades will want to take the time to down the boss. In addition to unlocking the normal look, upgrading from Champion 3/8 to 5/8 will unlock the Heroic appearance as well. There are two armor pieces for each class type, as well as an amulet that all characters can receive.
- Amulet is Critical Strike/Versatility, with Critical Strike being a substantially larger amount
- Cloth classes can get legs that match the Priest set or noots that match the Mage set
- Leather classes can get a chest piece that matches the Rogue set or a belt that matches the Druid set
- Mail classes can get legs that match the Evoker set or boots that match the Hunter set
- Plate classes can get a chest piece that matches the Warrior set or boots that match the Paladin set
In a change from the prior system the World Boss will drop a guaranteed item with the first kill by your Warband each week, however it will be a Warbound-until-Equipped piece that can be for any armor type. Subsequent kills have no chance of loot (but can still receive world quest completion credit).
As always we should expect defeating the Gobfather to count as a world quest with possible rewards of gold, Coffer Key shards (used for Delves), and Resonance Crystals.
The Gobfather is now available with the beginning of The War Within Season 2 on March 4.
