The Queue: Draygonia pries open my tomb and unleashes me upon you

Draygonia.

I mean, come on, Draygonia. ONE? You expected me to pick one?

It is a sign of my love for you all that this entire Queue isn’t just me listing several dozen prehistoric animals that should be better known to laypeople. Heck, the fact that there isn’t a dedicated Glyptodon section is pure self-restraint.

Pick one? One? How?

KALCHEUS

What are you most looking forward to in patch 11.1.5?

I like the idea of the Nightfall scenario itself. I’m a sucker for big grind fests, what can I say?

RED

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII QUEUE _o/

Hello, Reddicus. Were you good yesterday? Play any good JRPG’s?

MUSEDMOOSE

Q4tRossiQueue: same as I asked Liz – what are your character plans for the BG3 update? I vaguely remember saying you liked the giant barbarian on one podcast or another; my apologies if I’m misremembering.

You are not misremembering. You are not misremembering at all.

I like embiggening my characters, it’s simply the most cromulent way to play in my opinion.

SCUNOSI

Holiday question prompted by yesterday’s Queue: what game (preferably MMO but any game I guess) has the best Easter-themed holiday? I’ve been thinking that Hatchingtide is probably one of my least-favorite holidays in FFXIV: the theme is kind of weird, the clothing they’ve made for it just tends to look dumb (they lean heavily into the egg theme) and the music is fun but gets annoying really fast. Then I got to thinking that I’m not sure if I really cared for Noblegarden that much either. I bet it’s hard making a “good” fake holiday when the original real-world one is religion-specific, so there’s already bound to be less fans compared to secular (or holidays that have become heavily secularized) holidays.

Does Belial showing up in Diablo 4 count?

If not, I’m going to have to give the crown to Stardew Valley and the Easter-adjascent Egg Festival, with the runner ups being Animal Crossing New Horizons and Final Fantasy 14. Hatching-tide is almost aggressively Easter, to the point where the art for it scares me sometimes. That is one ticked off rabbit.

MOVEWOW

Q4TQ: I saw that Warcraft celebrations were being done in different countries around the world. What do you think about Blizcon being done like that, or at least in different parts of the U.S., I think it would be good for fans.

Rather than go on a very very long rant about current politics, I’ll just say I would like it if some of that stuff came up here so I could go to it.

DRAYGONIA

If you could pick one lesser-known extinct animal to elevate to the fame level of Triceratops and Woolly Mammoth, what would it be?

One? Pick one? Are you mad?

  • Pliosaurus macromerus — while Lilopleurodon has been dethroned from its ‘wow, so big’ size, this species of Pliosaurus might just be the new biggest Pliosaur evar and was a 14 meter long nightmare for anything swimming in the Jurrassic. Side note: I’m sassy about Liopleurodon rossicus no longer being considered a valid taxa. However, some people say that Pliosaurus macromerus and Pliosaurus rossicus might be the same species and if so, that would make me happy again.
  • Anteosaurus magnificus — First off, gotta love that name. Secondly, at 6 meters long and 600 kg/1300 lbs, this was the biggest non-mammalian synapsid carnivore in the Permian so it deserves some respect. Recent reconstructions of the animal indicate that it wasn’t a sluggish ambush predator, but rather a fast and powerful predator that relied on speed and the power of its heavily built skull and jaws to take down prey.
  • Inostrancevia alexandri — I have talked about this fella before. I am not likely to stop, either. While less massive than their very distant relatives and predecessors the Anteosaurus, this animal was a big and agile predator ranging from 3 to 4 meters depending on species, and maxing out at around 400 kg (almost 900 lbs) making it comparable although bigger to modern big cats. In fact, Inostrancevia is very close in both build and size to the now extinct Smiliodon, and even had similar saber teeth. Seriously, I love Inostrancevia so so much.
  • Fasolasuchus tenax — Another returning favorite, this behemoth pseudosuchian predator (basically, on the Crocodile line instead of the Bird/Dinosaur line of the Archosaurian clade) is the largest non-Theropod land predator ever to exist and rivals many Theropods for the title.

Okay, that’s the Queue for today. Guys, I had to chop up that response to Draygonia into four separate sections just to get it to post at all. The only thing stopping this entire Queue from being about Draygonia’s question is that the CMS simply wouldn’t let me.
