The Queue: From Mitsuru Monday to Fuuka Friday

A normal work week starts on Mitsuru Monday and ends on Fuuka Friday. It is known.
Today is Fuuka Friday, a truly blessed day. A day where smiles come easy, where work feels light, where everyone comes together to breathe a sigh of relief for a long, hard week is at last over.
A day where even lemons taste sweet.
So run along, friends, and let’s do this Friday Queue thing — which is a thing we do now!
Q4tQ: What are your thoughts about games that you can break? Mostly thinking about RPGs where if you create the right build you remove all difficulty from the game, not those weird speedrunning glitches were you can clip past locked doors or cause the credits to roll from a certain button sequence.
Asking because even on Maddening, my Byleth has an 83% chance to crit, the Chalice of Beginnings (counter attack no matter what), and Vantage letting me get first strike against any enemy when their health is below 50%. I just warp Byleth into the middle of a pack of enemies and watch all of them die.
I think it’s okay as long as it’s optional, and not an obvious strategy that everyone will stumble upon, effectively killing any challenge for most players. In that sense, it’s not that different from a game simply having difficulty options. You’re choosing to put it on Very Easy for yourself; it’s your choice. You could also choose not to do it.
But like I said in the first sentence, I prefer it when these broken builds take a certain amount of effort to make, so that players don’t just happen to stumble upon them without even trying. If that happens, and a large portion of players end up taking the easy route even without actually meaning to, that’s a failure on the game design. The game ought to offer choices, but it also needs to protect its own core mechanics.
Guys, I just found out it is National Haiku Day.
Have at it.
Twenty-four and seven
Sometimes even about WoW
We chatter nonstop
Yesterday it was,
So no more haikus today.
WAIT! Oh crap! My bad.
In my next life I might want to be a shoemaker, because I bet they make a killing.
QftQ: In your next life, what profession might you try a hand at learning?
Since this is a “next life” thing, I’m going with something that I’m definitely not doing in this life, but that I’m still somewhat curious about.
I’d work with animals. Like, elephants, or giraffes, or something. Studying them, preserving them, what-have-you.
Or I’d be a diplomat, and try improve relations between nations to make the world a more peaceful and fair place.
Q4Q: based on the image, what is your favorite bread in WoW?
Q4tQ: how often do you rest in games that don’t require it? I know there are some games where if you don’t, you’re basically dooming yourself, but in others, there’s either no benefit or one you can easily miss.
Asking because Cyberpunk 2077 is the kind of game that, after some of the quests, it’s real easy to feel like V just needs to go home for a shower and a really long sleep. >_<
When I was playing Final Fantasy XIV, I’d always made sure to go to an Inn, put on some sleepwear, lie in bed, and logout. It just felt… immersive, and right.
This is a small reason why I appreciate games like Fire Emblem: Three Houses or the games in the Persona series: seeing your character rest is just a natural part of gameplay, so it feels organic. In comparison, when I was playing a game like Unicorn Overlord or Triangle Strategy, where characters are caught up in this enormous war and traveling all over the world facing battle after life-and-death battle, I often caught myself thinking how odd it was that those characters never took any breaks, and how exhausted they must have been.
Q4tQ: Do you have a favorite bird song?
The Birdwatcher, by Vulfpeck.
Oh, you mean the noises that the bird makes?? Ah, gotcha. Well, nevermind then.
It’s obviously the Danish Long-tailed Ash-throated Duskwren of the Northern Reeds (Noctirampa danica cinereicollis boreojuncensis).
Yeah.
This has been The Queue, which means that it’s time for you to talk among yourselves and then get back to me with some questions. Move along now.
