This week’s free games on the Epic Games Store are Touch Type Tale and Deadtime Defenders

This week the Epic Games Store is giving away two titles: Deadtime Defenders, which is being newly released to the Epic platform, and Touch Type Tale, a very unique take on classic RTS games.

  • Deadtime Defenders
    • Release Date: February 18, 2020
    • Game Type: Arcade, Gunner
    • POV: 3rd person, 2D Side Scroller
    • Party: Single player
    • DLC: None

Deadtime Defenders is a fun little looter shooter in 2D. You can customize a lot of things about your characters and their abilities and guns while battling your way through several different modes. It doesn’t offer huge new twists or anything, but it’s a fun little arcade-style game, which can’t be discounted. Especially not right now, because it’s free.

  • Touch Type Tale
    • Release Date: March 28, 2023
    • Game Type: RTS, Mavis Beacon-alike
    • POV: 3rd person
    • Party: Single player
    • DLC: None

Touch Type Tale is one of those games with a deeply novel concept that makes you stop and take notice, but it’s also so novel it’s tough to tell whether it’s going to feel fresh and interesting or like a mishmashed slog when you play. It’s in many ways a classic RTS, but the way you generate and move certain units is done by (accurately) typing out words that appear on the battlefield. The jury is out, but you can decide for yourself for free now. If you’re coming on this post a bit later than usual, there is also a free demo, so you can give it a spin before you buy.
