New Hearthstone miniset Embers of the World Tree is now live, with new Smoldering cards!

Hearthstone Into the Emerald Dream expansion now has its own miniset: Embers of the World Tree is now live. This new miniset launched on May 13, and it’s intent on setting Hearthstone ablaze, much like Fyrakk (who also makes his appearance as a new Legendary minion). The set adds Smoldering cards, which get stronger each turn they’re in your hand, but then burn out, being automatically discarded. And Blizzard doubles down on the Imbue and Dark Gift effects from Into the Emerald Dream, giving those mechanics a power boost with more cards in Embers of the World Tree.

Here are the details on this miniset, which introduces 38 new cards:

  • 4 Legendaries (1 copy of each)
  • 2 Epics (2 copies of each)
  • 16 Rares (2 copies of each)
  • 16 Commons (2 copies of each)

This adds a total of 72 new cards, which you can obtain all at once for the cost of either $15 if you want to pay with real money, or 2,000 gold if you’d prefer to use in-game currency. There’s also a (very expensive) all-Golden version of the set, which can be purchased for a whopping $70, or 10,000 gold. This version includes an extra Diamond copy of Fyrakk, the Blazing, a new legendary minion.

Even if you don’t purchase the miniset, you’ll be able to find its cards by opening normal Into the Emerald Dream packs, so that’s another way to collect them after it’s been released.

Smoldering Cards are like playing with fire

This miniset will introduce “Smoldering” cards, which are the definition of playing with fire: they get stronger each turn they stay in your hand, but you need to use them quick! If you hold on to them for a bit, you’ll get more bang for your buck. However, if you wait too long, you’ll automatically discard them. An example given is the rare Mage spell Smoldering Grove, which costs two mana and draws you a card by default. The drawing effect is upgraded each turn — presumably to draw more cards — but the spell gets discarded after three turns.

We’re also getting new cards that contain the Imbue and Dark Gift effects introduced in the most recent expansion. In addition to that, the “burning” theme is strong for this miniset: many of its new spells belong to the Fire school, and some of them have effects that allow you to more easily access those Fire spells, as well as playing off from casting them.

The miniset is available right now, so grab your gold and pick up these new cards!
