The Queue: Sleepy Wednesday

The weather here has gotten a little colder, the clouds are out today, and it just feels like a day for a nap. Probably no one would notice if I just took a little snooze right here, would they? I could probably get away with it.

But, no, let’s answer some questions first. Let’s Queue.

RED ASKED:

Q4TQ: do you think they should add the original character backgrounds (the ones you still see on characters that aren’t part of Warband camps) as background options for Warband camps?

Followup Q4TQ: if so, should there be any restrictions? Or should they just allow players to make a Warband featuring four Orcs using the Stormwind background if they wanted?

I think more options here is great, particularly traditional choices that have that classic feel — sometimes you gotta give it to the classics. But I also doubt this would be a seamless transition. Warband screens are scaled differently than the old character backgrounds; they’re wider to fit in more characters, and they have more detail. I think to make the classic screen backgrounds work as Warband screens, they’re going to need a glow-up, and that means some work from the devs, even if all they’re doing is maintaining a perfectly classic look at a different, Warband-screen scale.

And with so many different things to do, I feel like refreshing these old screens may not be high on the priority list. I think it would be a great add, but it probably isn’t one to expect soon.

If and when they do add this, let’s not restrict it. It’s not like letting your Orc stroll into Stormwind: it’s a screen that you see on login, that shows your character in the way that you want. I think that’s fair game. If you want an Alliance-sympathetic Orc character and you want to see him in front of Stormwind when you log on? Awesome. More power to your imagination. (Further support of that character concept, though, is way up in the air.)

TELWAR ASKED:

…so…we just have to run the Horrific Visions a bunch of times?

We’re playing an MMO, so I do kind of think that’s the point, yeah.

I’m not trying to make light, but yes, we’re here, it’s here, now we rinse, wash, and repeat until we’re tired of it (or collect all of the rewards, whichever comes first).

MUSEDMOOSE ASKED:

Q4tQ: in games where you have a full party, how often do you find yourself favoring some members over others? I’m just saying that in my current BG3 run, it’s real clear who gets the better loot and who doesn’t. :P

In games like this with grouping that also has a narrative element to it, like character commentary, I’m always picking based on who I think is most interesting (or just has the most entertaining comments). And then, of course, those are the characters who need the gear because the rest of them are cursed to stay home for not being as interesting. (Don’t tell them that, even though they probably already know.)

Sometimes changes must be made due to quest requirements or for mechanical necessity, though I feel like BG3 in particular has so much flexibility in how characters are specced that you can build any party to work the way you want.

But no matter the game, I’m pretty sure we all have our favorite party members.

SARABANDE_MAGE SAID:

I’d kill Arthas if he dropped a really cool coffee table where the support are spiky very ICC-looking metal (I guess that would be saronite?) and the surface looked like a smooth piece of ice, kind of jagged around the edges.

I don’t think Arthas would drop a couch unless it was The Frozen Couch which . . . OK, I’d kill him for that too.

I don’t need a reason to kill Arthas, but I do need a reason want to kill Arthas enough to trek out to Icecrown Citadel. And though I’m not sure I want an ice-and-spikes themed home, I’d probably kill him for an ice couch, just so I’d have it in case I decided I needed to run with the theme.

As I said, I don’t need a lot of reason here.

That’s all for today friends. Take care everybody and I’ll see you in the comments section!
