What stories would you like to see added to The War Within’s upcoming Lorewalking feature?

With the introduction of the Lorewalking feature in The War Within’s imminent patch 11.1.7, we’ll be able to step back in time and relive the stories of Xal’atath, the Lich King, and the Ethereals by playing through relevant quests scattered across Azeroth. Many of us at Blizzardwatch are quite excited about this development, and are already thinking ahead to other lore threads that we’d like to see get the same spotlight treatment in the future.

The inclusion of the Lich King is an interesting one for the kickoff of this feature, since we defeated him over a decade ago. To me, this means that Lorewalking won’t solely be a feature that players can use to catch up on current events — it can also be used to explore the stories of Azeroth’s past. What other major antagonists would be great additions to Lorewalker Cho’s scroll case?

Neltharion comes to mind immediately for me. Show me his slow descent into the grasp of the Old Gods, his betrayal of the other Aspects, his fight against Gruul. A whirlwind tour of the Shattering from his point of view would be amazing. Let me rip apart Stormwind and bathe hapless adventurers in flames!

There are also quite a few major characters we’ve seen over the course of World of Warcraft that seem to disappear for chapters at a time. Trying to experience the whole story of Queen Azshara would take you across several expansions and into quite a few areas that you’d need to unlock with long quest chains. Newer players who have dabbled in Legion content may be surprised to find that, upon reaching the end of their first Black Temple transmog run, Illidan Stormrage is the final boss. And we kill him. Both of these would be ideal candidates for a tidy Lorewalking quest chain that gives an overview of their deeds.

I really appreciate that with the first batch of Lorewalking stories, we can already see that it won’t just be a way to collate the exploits of individuals. Having a primer on the entire Ethereal race headed into Midnight will be extremely useful. There are a number of other races that deserve a grand retelling of their origins and exploits. While the Orcs and Dranei would both make for amazing (if lengthy) Lorewalking entries, I think that the story of the Worgen could be a very cool addition. There are some scattered quests where we visit Gilneas at different points in time that could serve as the foundation to support a few new quests exploring the creation of the Worgen.

If we’re thinking of stories that would be useful to get up to speed on before new content furthers the narrative, then the role of the Titans would be a prime candidate for a whole series of Lorewalking experiences. I’d be very interested to see what tidbits would get added to give us a better understanding of their true nature, but it would be great to simply have a way to relive the slowly changing relationship we have had with the Titans since we were just wee Dwarves excavating some interesting-looking ruins.

I could go on and on with the list of things I’d like to see featured in Lorewalking, because anything that makes the story of this ridiculously expansive game easier to digest should be a feature that gets continually expanded. What are your top choices for future chapters in the annals of Lorewalker Cho?
