Didn’t get a Switch 2? That’s OK! We’ve got some new games for you to play instead!

Yesterday was the official launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 — wait, what do you mean you didn’t get one? I was going to ask you to play Mario Kart later! Well, that’s perfectly fine as we have some nice new releases this week we can talk about.
Let’s go fishing with the Viva La Dirt League crew in Nice Day for Fishing, become the legally distinct not!Avatar and farm in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, finally get to play the next two chapters in DELTARUNE, and cap it all off with a favorite of mine that’s on sale this weekend (Lies of P).
Life’s been bass: Nice Day for Fishing
It’s not every day that an NPC becomes an adventurer — but today isn’t a normal day. In Nice Day for Fishing, the heroes of Azerim have mysteriously vanished and you — the NPC fisherman Baelin — awaken to find that you’ve become an adventurer and now must defend the town of Honeywood and also save the world. No pressure, eh? Of course, you’re going to do this by doing what you do best — fish. Catch ’em all and turn in the collections at the fishing God’s statues to get unique blessings, find mysteriously powerful artifacts to help you catch new fish, and also take a few minutes to save the world while you’re at it. Oh, and it’s the officially licensed Viva La Dirt League game which is pretty awesome.

Guardians of the greens: Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma
Recently I gushed about my love of Rune Factory 4, and while this isn’t the next numbered Rune Factory title and is instead a spinoff, it shows that Marvelous is listening to player feedback. A catastrophe caused the power of runes to end, leaving the people to suffer — until you awaken after a dream of dragons, being told you’re the legally distinct, definitely not-Avatar, who can bend the elements to their will and must save the world. Accept your Earth Dancer powers, harness the elements, and deal with the corruption seeping across the land. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you’re going to get away from tilling the soil or working the fields, quite the contrary.

The cooler Undertale: DELTARUNE
Undertale managed to take the RPG crowd by storm when it released in 2015, using comedy and interesting game mechanics to tackle hard hitting topics while also keeping things light. DELTARUNE is the next game in the Undertale saga. The next two chapters just so happened to come out this week, and they show that Toby Fox still has it. While the game itself wont be complete for another year or so, feedback on Chapters 3 and 4 have been stellar; most of what I have seen thus far is players stating they finished it, and immediately restarted the game to hunt for things they definitely know they missed. Kinda hard to beat that kind of recommendation.

Bonus Sale: Lies of P
Soulslikes. They’re a specific taste, but I love ’em, we all know that by now. Lies of P is something I’ve certainly brought up before as a title you should pick up, and I still believe that it’s an amazing example of what a studio can put out regardless of what their previous titles were (in this case, cheap mobile games). Recently announced Lies of P: Overture should be coming in the near future, giving us the backstory on what happened during the war — so now is the perfect opportunity to dive in prior to the DLC being released. Part Bloodborne with an interesting weapon creation system, Lies of P may honestly be one of my favorite Soulslike games from the past few years. I’d really suggest not missing on this if the genre does anything for you.
[Edit] Not long after this post came out, NeoWiz shadow dropped the DLC! Lies of P: Overture requires that you complete most of the main game before you can access it, but it’s officially out and you can snag it here for $30!
